It’s time for the 2015 preseason Southeastern Conference All-Breakout team.
These are the guys that weren’t full-time starters last season (some started at other positions at times, started a handful of games or have platooned their entire careers) that could end up challenging for All-SEC honors this year.
No newcomers (freshmen, JUCOs or transfers) were included. To be eligible, you had to have been on the current roster last season.
There are some who you have never heard of and some who you’ve heard a lot about.
Bottom line- get excited about watching these guys this season.
QB: Jeremy Johnson, Auburn
??Johnson projects to be the best of the first-year starters at quarterback around the league. He’s 6-foot-5, can run, can throw and has plenty of talent around him. On top of that, he’s an excellent leader and has a ton of intangibles that make great quarterbacks...well...great. ?
WR: Nate Brown, Missouri
The Tigers are looking for a go-to receiver to emerge and Brown, a plus-sized Georgia native, has shown flashes and even though he caught only five passes a season ago, he’s the leading returning receiver for Mizzou. His total catch count could end up being 10 times the total of last season- for real.
WR: Robert Foster, Alabama
Foster, a former five-star recruit out of Pennsylvania, has the tools to become the go-to target in offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin’s system. Tide head coach Nick Saban said during spring he was encouraged by the progress Foster has made and added that when Foster is sure of what he’s doing, he plays fast. Chances are everything comes together for him this season.
RB: Ashton Shumpert, Mississippi State
It’s not going to be easy replacing Josh Robinson, but Shumpert has plenty of talent and should get his yards in the system. He averaged more than six yards per carry in the Bulldogs’ final two games of last season- losses to Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl and Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.
RB: Derrick Henry, Alabama
It doesn’t seem like Henry should be on this list as he’s far from your typical first-year starter, but this will be his first season as the No. 1 back for the Tide. The 6-foot-3, 241-pound Henry rushed for 990 yards as a sophomore despite sharing the load.
OL: David Sharpe, Florida
Sharpe has all of the athletic upside you could ask for, is now up around 305 pounds and could be a bright spot for the Gators up front this season. Sharpe, from Jacksonville, Fla., was a prospect that had limitless upside coming out of high school and this year, the SEC should know why.
OL: Isaiah Wynn, Georgia
Wynn could be the Bulldogs starting center or he could start at offensive guard. Regardless, he was impressive as a true freshman, playing in 11 games and starting one and should be a standout player on what should be a very good UGA offensive line.
OL: Ross Pierschbacher, Alabama
The tough, nasty Iowan is a player that folks around Tuscaloosa have high hopes and expectations for...with good reason. He’s going to be one that’s hard to handle in the run game and pass blocking this season.
OL: Frank Ragnow, Arkansas
Ragnow had some success as a true freshman with nine starts and now that the Minnesotan has found a home at guard, the sky is the limit. The jump from year one to year two should be significant.
OL: Braden Smith, Auburn
Smith is one of the most athletic interior offensive linemen you will find. He’s also a guy that’s a great scheme fit with the Tigers. You literally may be able to put together the most impressive highlight tape for an interior offensive lineman ever made on Smith after this season because of the combination of those two things.
TE: Jerell Adams, South Carolina
So far during his career, Adams has had to split time with San Francisco 49ers draft pick Rory Anderson. This season, he could be one of the most targeted players in the Gamecocks passing game.
Defense
?DL: Carl Lawson, Auburn
After being injured last season, Lawson takes over the “BUCK” position in Will Muschamp’s defense and he’s perfectly-suited to be a monster there. Lawson is smart enough, athletic enough and instinctive enough to be an All-American this season without a doubt.
DL: Charles Harris, Missouri
Why go against the Tigers defensive end that led the team in sacks and tackles for loss this spring and the guy that had a beautiful pick-6 during the Mizzou spring game? Harris replaces Shane Ray and if history is any indication, don’t look for a dramatic drop-off here. The staff in CoMo is outstanding at identifying, evaluating, recruiting and developing defensive linemen.
DL: Josh Augusta, Missouri
Augusta is a high-ceiling player that needs more consistency. There were times last season where he was outstanding. This season could be the breakthrough for a prospect that we (247Sports) loved coming out of the state of Illinois during his recruitment.
DL: Marquise Haynes, Ole Miss
Haynes led the Rebels in sacks as a true freshman and now takes over as a first-year starter. The sky is the limit for one of the many prospects that prove that the Ole Miss staff can make great evaluations and recruit resourcefully just as well as they can recruit the big name, no-brainer types.
DL: Daeshon Hall, Texas A&M
Expectations have always been high for Hall, an ultra-athletic edge rusher. Now 260 pounds and with Myles Garrett opposite him in a John Chavis scheme- it sets up for the sophomore to have a breakthrough.
LB: Gerri Green, Mississippi State
Green is a player that the Bulldogs are very excited about. He takes over for Bernardrick McKinney at linebacker and should do quite well. Green was battling for a starting spot in the spring, chances are he gets it and becomes a big cog in the Mississippi State defense.
LB: Lorenzo Carter, Georgia
Carter, a five-star recruit who got better and better as last season went on, should be a monster for the Bulldogs in the pass rushing department. Carter is fast, athletic and the game is slowing down for him- just like we thought it eventually would- which is bad news for SEC offenses, particularly passing games.
LB: Dillon Bates, Tennessee
The Vols legacy has gained weight and strength and should be a huge part of the Tennessee defense this season. It would not surprise to see Bates among the top playmaking linebackers in the league in 2015.
LB: Zach Cunningham, Vanderbilt
Cunningham is one of those Alabama sleepers that the Commodores previous coaching staffs were accustomed to finding. The 6-foot-4, lengthy athlete is an elite playmaker that head coach Derek Mason, who also will run the Vandy defense, can put to good use.
DB: Emmanuel Moseley, Tennessee
Moseley was a sleeper prospect out of North Carolina when the Vols found him and the lengthy, fast defensive back has already surpassed all expectations. This guy could solidify the secondary in Knoxville this season.
DB: Chris Lammons, South Carolina
Lammons took his lumps as a true freshman on the Gamecocks’ horrendous defense in 2014, but the former U.S. Army All-American from Plantation, Fla., improved as 2014 went along, had a big spring and could be the next outstanding cornerback from the program that has produced a host of good players at the position.
Don't sleep on these five, either: Malachi Dupre, WR, LSU; Garrett Johnson, WR, Kentucky; Isaiah McKenzie, WR, Georgia; Brandon Powell, RB/SLOT, Florida; Bryson Allen-Williams, LB, South Carolina

But where is Alvin Kamara?!?!!
This sounds like bleacher report. In other words, every selection is either contrarian to a better choice or is a poor attempt at following the trendy pick.

Stomaching that drivel was hard.
But yes, I forgot Kamara was JUCO, my mistake.

No Juco, stop trying to be some type of smart arse.

Why can't freshman or JUCOs be breakout players? In reality that's what most will be

So basically, you think more LSU players should be on the list?

I see you only have two DBs, so I will nominate another.
Malkom Parrish, DB - UGA

No LSU? Malachi, Ed Paris? nothing? oh

Not off the top of my head. You could consider Kendell Beckwith since his playing time was mistakenly limited last year, but that's it.

I didn't read much of the list (just skimmed for anybody from Vandy), and you got Cunningham. That LB corps could be as good as we've had. Cunningham, Bowden, Sealand, Weatherly, and the incoming Josh Smith should all be ready to make big plays.

Fournette, like Henry, is already a proven talent. I don't know why Henry is listed.

not trying to be a total LSU homer, but Dupree and Jamal Adams are about to break out big time.
