Theron Sapp, one of only 4 UGA players who's number has been retired...

21...Frank Sinkwich, HB ... Heisman Trophy winner
34... Herschel Walker, TB... Heisman Trophy winner
62... Charley Trippi, TB... MVP of the 1943 Rose Bowl, Maxwell Award winner. Trippi is the only player in the Pro Football Hall of Fame with 1000 yards of receiving, 1000 yards passing, and 1000 yards rushing

40... Theron Sapp, FB...

the reason his # is retired???

quote:

His performance in the 1957 Georgia-Georgia Tech game led to Sapp's nickname of Drought-Breaker. Georgia Tech, UGA's fiercest rival at the time, had won the previous eight annual meetings between the two teams from 1949 to 1956, the longest winning streak in the series. Playing defense as a back-up in the 3rd Quarter of the game, Sapp recovered a fumble by Tech's offense at midfield. On Georgia's ensuing offensive possession, Sapp carried the ball nine times including a one-yard touchdown carry on fourth and goal for the game's only score in a 7-0 UGA win

Like everyone who ever did my sport... but in that spirit here's on who did my sport, but should've been a running back Rowdy Gaines.

I remember watching a uk/uf game one year when uk had no business being in the game and I think it was abney who returned like 2 kicks for TDs and I think had another long one called back.
