Our team in 2010 had 3 sec losses I think? That year was a clusterfrick in the East.

1992 Florida or 2011 Georgia. '92 Florida was probably the worst team Spurrier ever had at Florida. Their average scoring margin was only +3.3 PPG which is terrible. By contrast, Missouri's average scoring margin is +21.1 PPG and South Carolina's average scoring margin is +9.5 PPG. '92 Florida only had two wins of three scores or more (at least 17 points). Missouri already has four victories of 17+ points just against SEC teams alone. South Carolina has three victories of 17+ points or more against teams from BCS conferences. 2011 Georgia was also really mediocre. They had a bunch of close wins against sub-par competition thanks to a favorable conference schedule and lost to every team they played that had a pulse (Boise State, South Carolina, LSU).

it's popular to rip on the east this year, but if Mizzou wins the East they'll be top 6 or so, at 11-1 and if USCe wins it they'll probably be top 10ish at 10-2. Either of those would be better than several of the years listed upthread.

This. Either Mizzou or USC this year are fine football teams. The 2010 USC team was probably the weakest of the last four teams that Carolina has had, but just happened to get to Atlanta. The 2011 and 2012 teams were both significantly better than 2010, but they couldn't get to Atlanta.

'07 UTK was pretty shitty, and '11 UGA was average. '10 USC, while not great, did have a handful of damn-fine wins.

This is definitely one of the weakest. We beat them 30-6 with a backup QB playing for the entire second half of the game.

South Carolina. They lost to Kentucky and got destroyed in the SEC title game. The East was really down that year.

Agreed. Mizzou and SC would both be worthy SEC Championship Game opponents to the West winner.

But I will say our 2010 East team was our least talented team out of the past 4 years.

2007 UT team:

Ainge finished third in All-SEC voting (behind Tebow, Woodson)

Arian Foster, Lamarcus Coker, Montario Hardesty, Eric Berry, Jerod Mayo, Brad Cottam, Britton Colquitt and Dan Williams all played on this team. We also won the Outback bowl that year over #18 Wisc.

07 Tennessee and 2010 S. Carolina were both average at best. This year's east champion might be worse than both though.

So this seems to be the consensus. Worst East Champions of all-time would be...

2007 Vols
2010 Cocks
2013 Tigers or Cocks

Although it's hard to imagine a team shitting the bed in the SECCG any worse than the 2010 Cocks v. Auburn.

That was a pretty good team. Hail mary at halftime killed em. Also auburn had cam newton. SC also came pretty close to beating auburn at auburn during the season.

That team finished the season with one impressive win, and without that win, Fulmer is fired a year earlier.

Think Big12CCG 2008.

The only difference? Our opponent actually ended up winning the National Championship game.

Cam and Auburn would have destroyed anyone from the East that night, and all but one team from the West.

Let's not forget, SCAR easily could have beaten Auburn at Auburn that same season ... but Auburn and Cam were simply a team of destiney that season ... and especially in Atlanta that night.

I'm glad Ellis Johnson is at Auburn now and not SCAR. Auburn fans got a little taste of what can happen against a decent passing team this past Saturday night. He does not make good halftime adjustments against those sort of teams, never has, never will. Auburn got lucky against Georgia.

The '07 Tennessee team beat the end of season #2 team and lost by one score to the National Champs.

They had bad losses, but good wins.

If Ainge doesn't throw the pick, UT goes to the sugar and destroys Hawaii, and finishes 11-3. Possibly ranked as high as #8.

I doubt a 9-4 season woulda got Fulmer fired. However we were VERY close to losing to Carolina, Vandy and Kentucky that year... It could have went south fast.
