Police Calls To Tennessee Coaches Violate State Law?

University of Tennessee football players A.J. Johnson and Michael Williams didn’t learn from police they were under investigation for rape the way most suspects do.
Instead, the players first heard the news from their Tennessee football coaches — in Johnson’s case, four hours before police showed up at the scene of the alleged crime to question him, according to sources and cell phone records obtained by The Tennessean.

Well then if so, the police did it

I guess it all depends on how they heard about it and what was the intent. Did the cops go by the gym/lockerroom looking for the suspects and talked to the coaches there to try to find them, or did the cops call the coaches and ask "how important is AJ this year, we're about to arrest him for rape?"

Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch and a detective made “professional courtesy” calls to Tennessee head football coach Butch Jones about the investigation
So this is Butch's fault how?

Yep, I doubt that Butch called the cops "hey any of my boys on your radar?"
I am not defending anything I will let it sort itself out, but there is a lot of smoke. I am so sick of all the drama with this UT program from coaching changes, arrests, and all the other BS. I just want to watch some damn football and not suck.

I hope justice is levied on those who deserve it. Hate to think that people would choose football over something so terrible (if true).
I imagine this thing drags on for a long time and more speculative articles "break" and they become worse in their accusations.

Well, I haven't exactly made any implications in the OP that the UT coaching staff is at fault. However....
If you actually read the article, while obviously the KPD are largely at fault here for initiating the practice, the timeline of calls between Jones and the PD as well as with his accused players indicate some serious cover-up is involved....

Did these alleged cover-ups stop the players involved from being suspended immediately and investigated?

It's a Tennessean Article, hence dogshit. Not giving them clicks

That minor detail gets in the way of the OP's agenda, how dare you bring up facts and shite

It happened with two games left in the season and AJ was suspended within hours.
Butch's call to him after the call from the police was likely to tell him that he was suspended.
Not to help him cover it up, lol.

Not to mention every single Tennessean article has been pretty much "Hey look at this! Something might have happened. Can you imagine what they might have talked about? They could have talked about a lot of bad things"
Then they slip in one sentence saying that what they talked about is unknown. It's basically a lot of implications with little to no substance. It's yellow journalism, pure and simple.
There may be misconduct in all of this, but the these sharticles aren't doing anything more than pointing fingers with little to nothing to go on.

No, but it certainly gave the players literally HOURS to [stop, collaborate, and listen] their stories together and perhaps dispose of any incriminating evidence.

They executed a search warrant of A.J.'s apartment and found used condoms and weed.
So obviously disposing of evidence is exactly what they did. Obviously.
