Word is coming out of the meetings that I posted about yesterday that the new playoff system will be governed by its own poll.

This is somewhat disconcerting given the possibility that the poll could be rigged to prevent more than one SEC team from making the playoffs.

Or not?

Where does the committee come in then? Or are they the ones voting in this poll?

I'm hearing the committee chairman will be Gene Stallings who will get 2 votes: 1 for him and 1 for Bear. He'll also have the option to veto any decisions made by the committee.

Can we just get to an 8 or 10 team playoff already?

This 4 team deal will cause more issues than the BCS
Only good thing is that the 5/6 will have less argument than the 2/3

Extremely good chance the new system will quickly show what it really is........and that is worse than the BCS.

The only change that should have been undertaken was:

1.) take the top 4 ranked teams in the BCS
2.) no conditions; the top 4 ranked teams
3.) 1v4; 2v3
4.) then national title game

Instead, we are going to what will be exponentially more biased than what we originally had. When you consolidate power to a committee instead of hundreds and hundreds of voters, you failed.

As long as being a conference champ isn't made into a prerequisite for the playoff, then I don't think a SEC team will get shafted. If that was the case, then Bama wouldn't have made it into the last 2 BCSCGs. Most reasonable people know the strength of the SEC, and I would bet that the committee members will vote that way.

Not a clue. All they've disclosed so far is that it will be its own poll specific to the playoff and it will use a variety of factors to determine who makes the cut after the last regular season game is played.

No idea. I guess, and this is purely speculation on my part, but it would appear, according to the tone, that the committee is going to have final say so about everything so I assume that to be the poll as well.

Bingo. All the complaints people have about the BCS and specifically the problems with the 03, 04 and 11 seasons would be solved by just reaching down and picking up the next 2 teams in the rankings.

I am down with the top four conference champs. If my team can't win the conference I don't see why they get a pass to play in a small playoff relative to the size of the pool of teams.

The number 2 team in a conference came in second from the results of a playoff/tournament already.

Wow, I can't believe some people are already saying the new system will be worse than the BCS. The major problem w/ the BCS was not having a clear cut top two teams. IMO it is clearly an improvement to go to four teams. A #5 who felt like they should have been #4 will likely have a weaker argument that someone who thought they should be #2. Even for people who favor an eight team playoff this is a step in the right direction.
