because eventually every major conference will be a 16 team league it may not happen for another 15 years as someone said. but eventually it will

No, I'd rather it just rotate pods. For example, in year 1 the north pod plays the south pod and the east plays the west. Best team from each pairing goes to Atlanta. The next year, the north plays the east and the south plays the west. Best from each goes to Atlanta. So on and so forth.

That eliminates the "fair schedule" debate in determining who goes to the championship because everyone played the same teams from within each half. It also means you play every school every three years and play at each school every six. Waaaay better than the 12 year bull shite rotation we have now.

You're right.. the rotating pods idea is MUCH better.

I do think that NC State and Va Tech are the two most realistic adds.

I will not get any love for this, but if the SEC were to expand by two teams, here would be the choices in my opinion:

1. North Carolina State and Virginia Tech. Gives the SEC two more states in its footprint, adds a historically good basketball program in NC State and a brand name football program in Virginia Tech.

2. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State OR Kansas and Kansas State. This is probably more likely, as the Big 12 is not as tight as the ACC. Neither state really adds much to the SEC, but a premier programs in Oklahoma football and Kansas basketball are tempting.

3. Outside the box. Louisville and Central Florida. Louisville has had tremendous national success in the big three sports in the past five years. Central Florida is the second largest college in the U.S., and in 20 years will be a national power if they can move into a major conference.

Here's how you do the schedule for football purposes - assume Va Tech and NC State are the adds

Southwest
-----------
Texas A&M-LSU
Arkansas-Missouri

South
----------
Alabama-Auburn
Mississippi State-Ole Miss

Mid-South
-----------
Tennessee-Virginia Tech
Vanderbilt-Kentucky

East
-------------
NC State-South Carolina
Georgia-Florida

Teams are grouped in their rivalry pod.

Each team will play every other team in their division every year (3 games)
Each team will play every team in a rotating division every year (4 games)
Each team will have one game against teams in the other two divisions based on finish.

For example: Using last year's records, the South would have looked like this:

1. Alabama, 2. MSU, 3. Ole Miss, 4. Auburn

If the South teams were matched against the Mis-South teams in a two year stretch,

Alabama would play the first place team in the Southwest and the fourth place team in the East.

At the end of the season, you could determine SEC Championship participants via the duo-pod winners, which would rotate every two years.

There is zero reason to have two teams from small states in the conference from a TV standpoint. The next round of expansion may be really strange. I could see, Auburn and Miss State forced to move to the ACC. Then Oklahoma, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech to the SEC. Many SEC team would have a non-conference rival game which help both conferences.
UGA-GT
Auburn-Bama
MSU-Ole Miss
Florida-FSU
TAMU-Texas
Mizzou-Kansas
NCState - NC
Virginia - Virginia Tech
LSU - Oklahoma State/????
UK - Louisville
Arkie - Nebraska

Nope, yall never ever will. It is about time you accept that fact.

Even if the Big 12 crumbles Texas would go to the B1G, PAC or even the ACC (via the Notre Dame deal) before the SEC. You know it to be the truth, you know Texas's opinion of itself more than me.

If this has been the reason you have stuck around on here I give you permission to start posting on the PAC Rant.

I think it would take some major turnover in other conferences for this to happen.

The Big 12 would have to implode or steal some ACC schools for this to happen (don't think the ACC schools are flirting with the Big12 anymore after the ND deal).

The only Big 12 schools I think the SEC would be interested in would be Kansas and Oklahoma (OK by far #1).

In a Big 12 implosion scenario with Texas heading to the Pac 14/16 then I could see Oklahoma saying sorry not sorry to OKSt due to "emergency" circumstances and them head to the SEC.

In that scenario WVU would be open and I think the SEC would allow them in to help in the Maryland/WV/VA markets. (although I'd rather have VT, just think the ACC would be untouchable).

So in that scenario I think you see the following PODS.

Southwestern
LSU
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Oklahoma

Northern
Missouri
West Virgina
Kentucky
Vanderbilt

Central
Alabama
Auburn
Miss St
Ole Miss

Eastern
Tennessee
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina

The only thing I see wrong with this is how weak the Northern Pod is, but really all these PODS are there for is to help shape scheduling and the championship game reps will be two overall records so it shouldn't matter too much.

Just make sure every one of the Northern teams have tough every year out of pod annual opponent.

1 - I HIGHLY DOUBT that they'll keep Aub./Ala. & Miss./MSU together & NOT keep Vandy/TN together. I don't know how to switch things around unless you flipped them with SC. Or flip UK with Tenn. (but that puts UK with extreme southern schools than what you have listed).

2 - Miss./MSU will be destroyed each year in the Central.

3 - I don't see Okl. coming without OKST, but I also don't see them as SOUTH EASTERN US either.

4 - I have difficulties believing the SEC will allow WV in.

Just my input.

The old guard would never allow this as Arkansas would win their pod in all major sports every year.

Thanks for giving us the boost we needed to win the East again.

I really enjoyed rushing the field after all the fair weather Hog fans cleared out during the 4th quarter.

Some people are going to hate this, but assuming we won't add any schools already within the footprint, West Virginia is a perfect fit. Small state, no pro sports teams, college football is king. As for the money issue, look at how close Morgantown is to Pittsburgh.

Although it'd be harder, seeing as the ACC seems more stable than the Big 12-2, Virginia Tech seems like another logical fit.

I'm aware this leaves a North Carolina-sized hole in the map, but North Carolina as a state just doesn't seem to have the same sports culture as West Virginia and southwestern Virginia.

As for the pods
Appalachian:
Tennessee
W. Virginia
Virginia Tech
Kentucky

Atlantic:
South Carolina
Georgia
Florida
Auburn

Mid-South:
Arkansas
Vandy
Missouri
Ole Miss

Gulf Coast:
Alabama
Miss. State
LSU
Texas A&M

Pods get paired up into divisions each year, and everybody gets one permanent opponent from each other pod meaning:3 pod games+4 "division" games+ 2 teams from the other pods= 9 game schedule, playing everyone else every 3 years.
