These PETA people are screwed up. That tiger gets better treatment than most people. I have visited his place several times (my wife went to LSU) and he is treated great. Truth is, all you have to do is go to downtown Baton Rogue and see that he is living a better life than 80% of the people there.
I don't get PETA at all. I think Mike is being treated very "ethically" so it flies in the face of their whole premise. Weird people.

quote:PETA has no answers. As you said, they are weird people that live in a bubble world where all animals roam wild, even dogs and cats. They are after publicity with LSU's tiger, and nothing more. They would prefer tigers like Mike be released in the wild and allowed to "humanely" die rather than living on the LSU campus to a ripe old age.

frick PETA.

Little do they know that Mike VI has only been to one LSU football game in 3 years.
They don't force him into his cage for the games. If he goes into it, great, if not, he stays in his swanky digs.

Tiger/Size of territory
Male: 39 mi²
Female: 7.7 mi²
You can make excuses all you want. Its not right to keep a tiger in captivity.

I say LSU gets a new Tiger and a Black Rhino just to give PETA a nice FU.

Get a new tiger, and feed members of PETA to it.

So it's not just PETA pleading it's also LSU Animal Advocates?
PETA may not know it, but surely the LSU Animal Advocates know that Mike didn't reside in a cage in the stadium. And that he wasn't forced to attend loud and rowdy games inside the stadium where he would endure discomfort and stress?

This is the answer.
We should answer PETA like Glinda the Good Witch to the Wicked Witch of the West:
"Rubbish. You have no power here. Be gone!, before someone drops a tiger on you!"

Ironically, Mike VI was the actual house pet of the former Administrator of Great Cats of Indiana, a cat and tiger sanctuary that donated Mike in '07.
Called Roscoe then, his owners placed him in the sanctuary when he got too big for their home. This is thought to be why he loves doing high fives and licks visitors' hands outside the glass, especially small kids.
Hang in there Mike.

If PETA actually gave a shite, they would be investing it's time and money to stopping African poachers and not this petty stuff.

50 years might be an optimistic guess. Wild tigers are under severe threat of extinction and the problem will only get worse. I'd be surprised if there are any left outside of captivity even 30 years from now.

Mike probably does more for tiger education and conservation efforts than all of PETA combined
