I'm sure ODL will be moaning and gnashing his teeth at such a display of journalistic heroism.

Yes. Believe it or not, Saban does not enjoy the collegiate equivalent of papal infallibility in regards to performance. From time to time, he can get out-coached, out-prepared, and out-smarted. It doesn't happen very often, though.

He nailed Saban. Dam
quote:

The offenses are too fast and unsafe? Excuse. The team wasn't motivated to play Oklahoma in the 2014 Sugar Bowl after the lightning-strike loss to Auburn? Excuse. The draft doomed us against Ohio State? Excuse.

quote:

America's best defensive coach hasn't been able to stop quality opponents in big, late-season games. Whether it's scheme or personnel or conditioning, the Crimson Tide has had significant slippage in an area that traditionally under Saban was its greatest strength.
Fix the real problems, Nick. Stop making excuses about ancillary issues. Nobody is buying them, and nobody is feeling sorry for Alabama.

Based on his membership date, it's certainly a possibility.

And tell us how he is supposed to do that. Are the players robots that receive information without responding? He can encourage them to not let it affect their performance, but in the end it is the player who chooses how to interpret information.

Saban quickly mentioned that it was a distraction. Ryan Kelly confirmed that it was. He didn't say the reason that they lost was the draft grade.

It's like Saban can't give his opinion on anything without going 15-0 the year before.

i understand that and i agree with saban here. i don't think the draft grades should be announced until after the season is over. the only thing annoying about saban is that he seems to have some excuse every season instead of taking ownership for the loss.

We'll pause for a moment here while America wipes its sympathy tears for poor Alabama and poor Nick. Perhaps we should set up a hankie stand in Tuscaloosa.

So now we know: the Tide lost to Ohio State because of draft info. Not because 'Bama underperformed, underprepared or was flat whipped.

Not because Ezekiel Elliott made the 'Bama defense look heavy-legged and slow while slashing them for 230 yards and two touchdowns. Not because a former third-string quarterback making his second career start threw for 243 yards. Not because Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin kept dialing up passes when he should have been calling runs.

And clearly not because Urban Meyer outcoached Nick Saban.

How many times does he need to take responsibility for the loss? He did so after the game. Isn't that enough? Or is he supposed to mention it every press conference from the end of that game until the next title game?

Someone asked his opinion on the draft grade process. Saban gave his opinion. Now everyone is crying because Saban gave his opinion.

By the way, Ohio State had a player on its team die the week of the Big Ten championship game. That's a slightly bigger issue to deal with than draft status.
That right there is the most unprofessional writing I've ever seen. He's literally implying that Saban thinks his little issue is more important than a kid dying.

A kid died Saban, how could you say the NFL should hold off on giving draft graded?!?! You sick frick!!

Kiffin called a horrendous game.

Agreed. One of the few during the whole season. Much like the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma the previous year, Alabama abandoned the run for whatever reason despite success doing so.

Kirby Smart also admitted a few weeks ago that the defense, essentially, did not respect Jones and did not think that he could beat them. Obviously, they were wrong.

All of the coaches share the blame, no doubt about it. So what? No one is infallible. Unless we start to blow equine phallus for several years I'll be the last one to bitch and moan about the staff.

It reminds me of Saban bitching and moaning about his players' lack of focus before the loss against Oklahoma even though it was his agent that was using the Texas job as a highly public bait for a bigger contract with Alabama.

Had this been any other coach, it would be a non-story.
