I think it's more of taking the common sense approach and playing closer/traditional rivals. I've said in a perfect world Auburn in the East but able to play the annual Iron Bowl.

I would be willing to lose the Tennessee game to keep our rivalry with Auburn every year. I don't want to see Auburn in the east but as long as they are on the schedule to end the regular season I am good with it.

Look the 80's were a wild and wooly time...yeah Dye and AU cheated their asses off.....Dye would tell you they had to pull even with Bama and UGA in talent....but Bama wasn't clean either as we always did what we needed to....Dye was kind of like a Bryant-lite. He coached under him for years and took his manual and used it to beat Bama at our own game. You could argue AU benefitted from a lot of shitty hires at Bama but that was self-inflicted.

AU was Bama's whipping boy for previous 25 years. Dye came in and kicked some arse and AU stood up to Bama. He got the IB out of Birmingham which was huge. Between Bryant and Saban, I think AU had the lead in the IB. I hated Dye at the time but now he was one of the senior voices in the SEC. they don't really have many coaches left like him anymore. He is half-crazy but he was a hell of football coach in his day. As I said, in the playoff era, Dye would have won a title I/m/o

I certainly know this first hand. I was trolling the other guy early concerning age to frame my 18-17 argument.

I appreciated your post and the one you made earlier in this thread concerning a playoff format in the 80's. I also agree with the content of this post.

Or just leave them in the west, have 9 conference games with 2 permanent interdivision protected rivals instead of one, and profit accordingly?

Would make an extra home game too...

I hate to be the one to defend a slightly above average coach like Dye but he was probably drunk

Listen at this scared, fearful sumbitch reaffirm his position last night on his radio show.

Skip to the 18 minute mark.

Another dumb idea. Traditional rival games are about all that's left separating CFB from the NFL. Auburn folks are stupid. What will the come up with next? No marching bands?

Actually I agree with Dye IF they go to a 7-2, 9-game SEC schedule. Personally, I couldn't care less if Auburn was put in the East and I'd like to see another SEC game added to the schedules anyway.

Dye is speaking for all the downtrodden and persecuted creed-monster Auburners who's self esteem is tied to whether or not AU won the Iron Bowl. They dont see a light at the end of the tunnel of Saban's reign of terror, so now they want out.

Move the frickers to the Sun Belt so they can strike up a rivalry with county neighbor Troy State!

I know it's hot up in the Western division on ALL the other schools and their coaching staffs. Hell, nobody wants to feel like they're gonna lose every year to the same team. The torches and pitchforks don't seem to ever be too far away for these folks....big pressure!
