This is what is so frustrating about this hire. Other coaches DID want the job. That incompetent clown Alleva got scared and pulled offers when things got tough. He was looking for any excuse to take the easy road.

Darkest days of Alabama football I've ever seen and I've seen some dark days....particularly at night.

We actually had initial excitement for Shula. That turned ugly though.

2005 was an awesome season. Shula definitely overachieved that year, up until the end of the Florida game.

Dont forger Mike Price. Caught throwing money down at a strip
club during conference meetings. Ha that was like surreal.

I think orgeron is more like fulmer than dubose.

It feels like he tunneled under miles to get the job. Like this was his personal goal. This didn't just happen.

Fulmer did pretty well at Tennessee after his coup

Dubose was a terrible hire. I laughed and knew he would be fired within a few seasons. With the sanctions Shula was a good hire to get through the probation years. He actually fielded competitive teams, but man he could blow a 4th quarter lead.

Yeah....when Prothro got hurt. Ruined the season for me. I knew him in HS and watched him since he was a freshman in HS. It gave me all kinda feels.

It turns more into just a game that you are constantly pondering who will bring you back to relevancy. Then when you get that taste of winning again, you can't imagine going back to where you were. I will say that it is exciting to get an upset, but it also gives you false hope and that is never good.

Every few years you'll string together some wins, beat somebody you shouldn't, and climb into the top 15. Then you lose to Kentucky at home and end up squeaking out a win in the music city bowl. But next year, you'll always be great.

They were different situations. I really really wanted Dubose. I thought he was perfect to continue what Stallings had built. Now Shula, I could not have been more against that hire. It sucked cause you knew there was no defending hiring him. There were plenty of coaches with more experience and success that they could have hired.

You'll think losing to Bama by only 10 points is actually a win.

I bet against Shula nearly every week for four years. The extra cash helped ease a lot of the pain.

Dubose- Nobody but the trustees wanted him. We didn't take it well.

Shula- Not the best man for the job just the only one we could get losing 30 scholarships and 2 bowls. We didn't get to pick on this one so everybody understood.

Not a mama fan, but I recall fans finding bright spots during Shula's time.

Didn't they even make the SI cover with something like "we're back" at one time?

LSU will not fall off the map. You are not facing sanctions. Talent alone should get you 8 win seasons.

And if not for Shula, it is doubtful Saban gets to Alabama.

Well, I was pretty numb from the day Dubose was hired until the sun came back up in January 2007. It was a good sleep.

That was Shula's thing he would do ok considering the circumstances. But would get owned by UT, LSU, and AU.

I went to LSU during the Dinardo years. I always said I would like to go back to those days.

you're not going to get an honest answer from bama fans, esp with the hindsight of saban's era ... most fans were ok with dubose's hire ... he was a longtime assistant under stallings and played for the bear and was the main person targeted for the job ...

shula was a last minute alternative, so that's not comparable to your situation ...

the simple fact is that there are no homerun hires ... nick saban wasn't nick saban when he came to alabama ... he was just another coach with a natty and some decent years under his belt ... howard schnellenberger went to ou with a natty and left after 1 year ... johnny majors went home to tennessee after winning a natty with pittsburgh, but never really threatened to get it going there ... danny ford never found success at arky ... urban's the only real homerun hire there's been in quite some time ... most everybody knew/felt he would be very, very successful at ohio state ... O might turn out to be a great coach - you never know ... plenty of guys have gone onto success with less of a resume than his ...

We were dealing with sanctions under Shula do it was excusable. Dubose, not so much. Hitting a coach is about numbers in making a deal, but making potential can make current calculated numbers a our metric for decision making. LSU let bean counters completely dick up this process. Good luck.

I recommend finding a good hobby that you can do on Saturday's in the fall.
