and the nation is decidedly tired of watching Alabama. Despite the fact that the game went down to the wire, ratings slipped lower than last year's game. It was the 2nd lowest rated National Title game of the past 7 seasons... which is when the game made the switch to Cable.

Highest Overnight Ratings for ESPN-aired National Title Games:

1. Ohio State vs. Oregon- 18.9
2. Auburn vs. Oregon- 16.1
3. Alabama vs. Clemson (2016)- 16.0
4. Florida State vs. Auburn- 15.7
4. Alabama vs. Notre Dame- 15.7
6. Clemson vs. Alabama (2017)- 15.3
7. Alabama vs. LSU- 13.8

Interesting that the two games that produced the highest ratings for ESPN did NOT involve Alabama.

Considering how exciting the game was, to pull in just a 15.3 rating is pretty dismal. ESPN has got to be disappointed.

At what point does the media decide that Bama has reached its shelf-life and the puff pieces about their program come to a hault?

I think a lot has to do with the southeast. Like we will watch the game no matter what, even if it's two non regional teams like OSU and Oregon. And then the local followings for those teams tune in and add to the ratings.

People on the west coast or northeast don't really give a shite if it's SEC teams or FSU/Clemson. They'd rather tune in to the Bernie town hall

Well it didn't end til after 11:00 on a Monday

The championship is in such a shitty time/date slot.. I know there's not much they can do about it but it would be such a bigger event with more parties and events if it were on a Friday or Saturday

shite, even a Thursday night would be better

There were half a dozen channels providing coverage along with Watch ESPN and those same channels being provided using the Watch ESPN app.

Traditional ratings aren't going to be what is the ultimate arbiter of how popular televised programming is any longer.

You're using analog methods in a digital player's world, bro. Brushing up on your 10-key instead of learning SQL Server.

Nielsen's aren't what matters. Tons of kids and adults watched that game on their tablets & smartphones. Tons of adults watched it on their Kodi Sticks.

Move along.
