Outside of Ole Miss and Tennessee, does Alabama have any competition in the SEC?

Let's be honest here. No one views Tennessee as a viable threat with Butch Jones calling the shots

Plenty of competition. Replacing us as the top dog, and I don't mean for a season but ending our reign? no. We've just won 4 out of 7 national titles. We won't win them all but when one is one it will be us. Ole Miss and UT aren't there yet and LSU is sticking around 9 or 10 wins and Florida is no longer a factor on the national title scene. Mac's gonna have them playing well and competing but I don't see a national title under his regime.

The whole SEC needs Tennessee to get off the mat and fricking beat Alabama. They are the natural counterweight to the Tide.

Let's be frank, historically, there is no counterweight.

Well let's see...

*Auburn has 3 wins over Saban and has never lost more than 2 in a row to Alabama since he got there. They also won a National Title and played for another right smack in the middle of the Saban era. So I'd say they are a threat, yes.

LSU also has 3 wins over Saban. They are perpetually a QB away from being able to take out Bama. So I guess I'd say just watch out to see if they ever find a QB. Are they a threat? Certainly could be.

Georgia just hired your long time Defensive Coordinator [/b]who knows how Saban operates. He is also proving he can recruit at a very high level. If he gets more out of the talent in Athens than Richt ever did, then yes, Georgia is a threat.

And out of conference, Saban nemesis Urban Meyer is 50-2 in just four seasons at Ohio State. He's also 1-0 against Saban. So yes, I'd call him a threat.

The way Clemson marched up and down the field against Bama in Glendale also makes me see them as a potential longterm threat.

Is Bama the best program in the country right now? Absolutely. But you're also going on six consecutive seasons of losing to someone at some point during the season. So I'm not sure why you are spending so much time wondering if anyone can every beat Bama. Yes, they can. And someone will next year in all likelihood.

Yes, you are the SEC's top program of all-time.

But you've also won 25 SEC Titles in 83 seasons. There is absolutely "counterweights" in this league or you'd be winning it more often than you are not winning it.

While I agree with your overall premise and the teams you mentioned (and would keep Ole Miss and Tennessee), it is still amazing to look at them and see that since 2008 they are

Auburn : 2-5
LSU : 2-6
Georgia : 0-3
Ole Miss : 2-6
Tennessee : 0-7

And those are the teams that are threats. And the even wilder thing is that we NEVER lose to the non-threats, meaning the threats have to do everything perfectly even if they beat us

Mississippi State : 7-0
Arkansas : 7-0
Texas A&M : 3-1

The field as a whole is a counterweight. One team is not.

Sounds like a bad Chuck Norris meme.

The sad part is...you're dead serious.
