Very interesting and detailed article about the Civil War origins of the "Louisiana Tigers."
Too long for those with short attention spans, but those that enjoy History, should enjoy it.
Definite similarities between the "Louisiana Tigers of the Army of Northern Virginia" and the current LSU fan base. LINK

Cool piece of history.....wait for the snowflakes to come out and claim your institution is a bastion of racial disharmony, that you need to change any reference to the Confederacy and how you need to make amends for every overt & covert act against blacks over the last +150 years.

I wish there were 2 boards on the SEC Rant: A board for people to continue talking shite, trolling, etc. and a board for people that genuinely want to discuss sports and share stories. This board is one big pissing contest every single fricking day.

Speaking of the War for Southern Independence, I have a question about LSU and General William Tecumseh Sherman.... who was president of that fledgling institution before the war....
"...Why do LSU fans and their university past president hate Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina?"
Oh one more thing... the 3rd Louisiana Infantry Regiment burned Fayetteville Arkansas during the war... an atrocity.

Good thing there are boards on TIGERDROPPINGS for all the SEC schools since their own forums are so lame, touchy, tightassed and humorless.

Won't be long before SJW and liberals call for the nickname to be changed due to its affiliation to the Civil War

One of the ole post in this topic I posted some newspaper articles on this topic. If they burned that Town likely they were just having big party that got out if control or they were pissed and ran out of booze. They were one of the most feared regiment in the war. By both sides.
They were like a marauding band of drunken pirates terroring the countryside and as likely to turn on friend or foe or each other if provoked.
Yep LSU fans all the way

Before de Choiseul took command of Wheat's Battalion, several Louisiana units had already become well known for such misconduct. Coppens's Zouaves had hijacked their troop train on the way to Virginia and looted Montgomery, Alabama, and drunken members of the 14th Louisiana rioted and attacked their officers on the way to the Old Dominion. In the latter incident, the regiment's officers had to kill several of the men to regain control. Nonetheless, Wheat's Battalion became the most notorious of all. It created so much mayhem in Virginia that General Richard Taylor claimed "every commander desired to be rid of it."
