One of the strangest plays in SEC history.

The Field Goal that Both Teams Celebrated.

Mississippi State lined up for a game winning 26 yard FG. A 40 mph wind gust came through and stopped the ball as it went over the cross bar.

That sucks. I hit a 7 iron into a wind like that. My ball was going backwards by the time it hit the ground about 80 yards away (my 7 iron usually goes 160).

Saban said he had the same thing happen when he was a coach at Toledo. If the wind is strong he likes to kick first if given the chance so he can choose the side of the field in the second half (he wants the wind in the 4th qtr behind his back).

I wish that this happened in modern times, and we could have the footage in HD so we could make a GIF like this, with Hugh Freeze's woodchuck face in place of the gorilla's.

Man oh man I remember that only because my Uncle Jim video taped that game in Memphis and sent it to me in Italy because we never got football games over there. So half the Company sat in the day room and watched in three weeks after the fact.

I was a big Ole Miss fan back then, Billy Brewer was/is a family friend, but I felt kind of bad for Bellard at the time and that was really the beginning of the end for him ... he lasted one more year I think maybe before Rocky Felker took over and was a total dumpster fire.

Poor ole Miss State - that was divine intervention on Ole Miss' behalf I guess, I dunno.

My first Egg Bowl. I was 10 and sat in the MSU student section. Got bit on the hand by a fricking spider in the first half then this crap at the end. Saw a couple of pretty good fights in the stands at least. Those were the days. I kind of miss the game being in Jackson.
