you're right, it's completely normal for a large group of students to assemble on campus on a Tuesday, burn political signs and shout obscenities about political figures.

nothing to see here right?

well actually......yeah.

but...fantastic job sensationalizing one picture and then including "burn political signs" as if it there an outbreak of that happening. Even though that was documented as the only sign that got burned. Also the fact that UPD's statement told of the only arrest made being a Public Intox.....

Screaming racial slurs in public is not normal behavior. I understand that it doesn't seem so odd when it happens periodically at Ole Miss, but it doesn't happen in most other places. It is not normal, and it is not okay.

LINK

Cause this is so much better than what happened at Ole Miss. Only reason why this did not make headlines is because it is a small all boys liberal arts school in Virginia.

I just saw so many news stories about students burning shite and chanting obscenities and possible racial slurs (which I'm sure you'll tell me didnt happen because u were there) that I lost track of what school it was.

oh wait, I didnt, because only one did it that I know of. but I'm sure the media is just out to get Ole Miss right?

When it is in the deep south with a history of racial issues... yes, because it makes for a better story to sell to the readers.

Does not compute.

Unless you're saying the students didn't go nearly far enough last night.

The university confirmed that racial epithets were definitely uttered.

That is true. But you had white kids out there yelling racial slurs while on the other side you had black kids yelling stuff right back. Both sides were wrong.

The media made it sound like as if it was 1960s and the black population was getting ganged up on. Hell, I hear worse things here in South Georgia on a weekly basis.

Click the link just a few posts up. How many times have you heard that story in the past 24 hours? Hell, this was the first I heard of it.

Instead of recognizing the shameful past, and going the extra step to improve the image of Ole Miss, far too many of you criticize your own administrators, cling desperately to Confederate symbols, and look for examples to show why Ole Miss is no different than anywhere else.

It IS different. Ole Miss has made tremendous strides and deserves credit, but until Ole Miss fans repudiate the kind of behavior like last night, you still haven't gone far enough. You don't get it.

can you tell me which news reporter was actually there? it lasted for 30 minutes yet hundreds of people from all over the nation are now experts because a really dumb journalism student here used the word riot in a tweet talking about some freshmen outside a dorm.

as someone who works with the media(note: I said WITH, not FOR), yes.....true journalism is few and far between.

Most of the media no runs with whatever story sounds more exciting to tell with absolutely no care for any actual sources other than a few people on twitter reporting it.
