Nope. And doubtful they ever will, at least not in our lifetimes. But, of course, we're not talking about twenty years ago. Or, sixty years ago.

Elite programs win championships. Plural. Ole Miss isn't ever going to be an elite program in football, and neither will MSU, Vandy, Missouri, Kentucky, etc.

Alabama is the greatest program in history, and will always be. They are the benchmark and will always be the benchmark. Not that LSU, Auburn, Florida, UT and Georgia won't make their mark. They'll win championships in the future. Most of the others won't, and that is by design. The conference dynamics dictate such, and you either recognize it and accept it, or drink a lot and cheer when you play spoiler.

But it's never more than that. Life goes on. If Ole Miss was smart, they'd focus on a sport where they can compete for championships. Baseball is the best bet; small schools can be competitive and bring home the hardware. Schools like Cal State Fullerton and Pepperdine can win championships, despite not even having a football team. If Coastal Carolina can win, so can Ole Miss. The likelihood of which is certainly better than its prospects in football, which are about zero.

If Ole Miss doesn't make a regional this spring, they will join Missouri as the only SEC schools to fail to make a bowl, fail to make the NCAA Tournament, and fail to make an NCAA regional.
