This is a rumor, so delete if necessary but a pretty reliable source (same guy that told me about Shea's brother to OM and Shea to OM a month before they happened) says that word in Oxford is 25 schollies over 4 years and a two year bowl ban.

Granted, this is before hearing on infractions, but apparently the prevailing rumor or word from inside NCAA is the aforementioned.

Fire away.

That's about where most people have been guessing it would be.

Pretty brutal.

Just as a point of reference

- 1994 Ole Miss : 24 scholarships over 4 years (6 per year), 2 year bowl ban, 1 year TV ban

- 2000 Kentucky : 19 scholarships over 3 years (6.3 per year), 1 year bowl ban

- 2002 Alabama : 21 scholarships over 3 years (7 per year), 2 year bowl ban

- 2010 USC : 30 scholarships over 3 years (10 per year), 2 year bowl ban

- 2017 Ole Miss (rumored) : 25 scholarships over 4 years (6.3 per year), 2 year bowl ban

I really don't see how it won't be more than that.

If that's it, I think they get off easy.

absolutely...in the mid 90s Ole Miss took recruits to a strip club in Memphis, which was 11 miles outside the zone that the NCAA allows for visiting recruits. We got hit with a loss of 25 scholarships over 2 years and a 1 year bowl ban...some coach who is now running for governor of Alabama came in and kept us afloat during this dark time. actually, he did better than keep us afloat, he finished with a very respectable winning record and smoked victory cigars in the locker rooms at Tiger Stadium and Between the Hedges, before slinking off in the middle of the night to coach a REAL cheaters program.

Ross Bjork if the NCAA offers that deal:

This is what the investigators want, yes. COI makes the decision after the hearing, so anything "heard" now is speciation based on what the investigators suggest as a penalty to the COI

Maybe so. BTW no word on show causes for Bjork and Freeze.

They could care less about Bjork. They want a multi year show cause for freeze

Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if that's the 'best-case' for the Rebs. We will see how willing the NCAA is to completely neuter a program, because they will have the option to do so.

Sounds about right. 25 over 4 years reduces them to fodder, like having a game against a fairly good Southland Conference team. Which sucks for anybody who likes CFB and loves all these historic rivalries.

he did this while at Auburn, yes. And it was on the field in 1999

I'll take your word for it.

As an aside, I heard that Richard Cross issued some weird, prepared retraction of his comments about Freeze yesterday relative to comments from the day the NCAA released the second NOA.

Heard he basically said he now thinks Freeze is completely clean and this was rogue boosters and coaches.

Strange stuff.

Only 25 over 4 is getting off easy considering what USC got hit with in 2010. I expect just a 1 year bowl ban since they've already banned themselves from postseason play for 2017.

rouge boosters or not, no way Freeze survives this if Ole Miss gets hit with sanctions similar to what the OP is alleging. No coach would. Plausible deniability would also be quite a stretch

He didnt actually smoke any cigars, it was a few players and a position coach, on the field, well after the game.

Yea, there is no "completely clean" if you are the executive of an organization and something this massive occurs.

You are either complicate, which demands immediate termination, or you are obtuse and don't have a firm grip on the happenings inside your operation, which is also fireable.

Either way, you fvcked up.
