This is the message that should come out of this whole episode. A lot of schools have success without cheating; you just have to do things the right way!

At least I hope this was tongue-in-cheek. I don't believe we run a clean program, let alone the bigger schools.

3. University of Kentucky Basketball — Death Penalty, 1952-53: Kentucky was the first basketball program to receive the death penalty, and it was well-deserved. The most serious issue that a sports team or organization can face is the influence of gambling and the game’s resulting loss of integrity, so when it was revealed that Alex Groza, Ralph Beard and Dale Barnstable shaved points during the 1948-49 season, a season in which they won the national championship, severe action had to be taken. The NCAA ordered UK to cancel the 1952-53 season, the trio pleaded guilty to accepting $1,500 in bribes for gamblers, and a fourth player, Bill Spivey, was charged with perjury because he refused to testify against his teammates.

Don't forget about their self-imposed death penalty from about 10 years ago

Or just put the 250 G's in the collection plate on Sunday and let the preacher pass it out to the players like we all do. #amateurs

Do you have any earthly idea how hard it would be to no break ANY NCAA bylaws? It's like trying to live without committing a sin. No one can do it if they're putting ANY effort towards winning.

They also don't have to worry about a bowl ban either because an Ole Miss that doesn't cheat won't go to any bowls.

Hell, Kentucky has one of the 2-3 worst FOOTBALL cheating cases in the last 20 years in the SEC. Nobody remembers it because it was the same time Alabama got hammered. Also because.....Kentucky football.

February 1, 2002

Kentucky was hit hard by the N.C.A.A. yesterday when it was placed on three years' probation for football recruiting violations.

The Wildcats, cited by the N.C.A.A. for more than three dozen recruiting violations, were banned from a bowl game next season and must forfeit a total of 19 scholarships over the next three years.

In a 41-page report citing Kentucky as lacking institutional control over its football program, the N.C.A.A. said it was ''troubled by the widespread nature of the undetected violations in time, frequency and the number of individuals who would have some knowledge that the activities were improper and failed to report them to the proper authorities.''

Kentucky can sign only 16 of a possible 25 recruits for next season (signing day is Tuesday), 18 the following season and 22 in 2004. During the probation, the Wildcats can have a total of 80 players on scholarship -- 5 under the 85-player limit.

What's funny about that is they didn't do half of what some more recent programs have done to land that punishment. Thank God for Rich Brooks.

And the OP is a mouthbreathing basketball-only fan.

Coach Cal shows how to do it. He recruits a roster full of 5 stars every year under the most intense microscope possible. It drives home the point that you can succeed without cheating
