You can disagree but I don't see anything wrong with claiming you're the SEC Champion if you win the SEC Championship. You get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tourney. What do you get for winning the SEC regular season? What if there are two teams that finish with the same SEC record (Losing to each other once)? If I'm asked who the SEC Champion is, I'm going to say it is whatever team won the tournament.
ETA: I'll admit I'm wrong. Looked it up and the SEC names the official champion as the Regular Season Champion. I still think that's stupid.

it's really not, though. why should a 4 game win streak in a tournament override a 16 game conference season? or a 30 game season in baseball? many times the best teams in power conferences aren't even necessarily trying to win conference tournaments but trying to rest players for the postseason. especially in basketball where it's single elimination.

LSU didn't make rings for losing the BCS Championship game, though. They made rings for winning the SEC Championship. This is actually the first time I've ever seen a school make participation rings for a bowl game. Wonder if the score of the game is on the ring
