True. However, you should still try to mitigate the risks and field turf seems to increase them

VHS is a nice cfb stadium. I like its intimate size and proximity to campus and the Grove. The natural grass and other improvements only make it better.

No reason for a Southern Team to play on artificial turf outside.

Which we are doing. We couldn't grow grass in the south endzone which is why we switched in the first place glad to know that they've found a solution.

Troy plays on turf. But I think the reason was that it gets so much use and the grass was getting worn out by late in the season. High school games there, the band practicing, and the college games. Plus they would have JV games on Sundays some times. Three games in a weekend just tore it up. They switched to turf with the last renovation about 10-12 years ago. Had it replaced a couple years ago. I don't mind the look of it. And there weren't a ton of injuries.

Turf does look better, when its new. It wears pretty quickly though.

I wish grass would grow correctly in our stadium.

Yeah maybe you'll only lose by two TDs next time you come to the VHS

UT's record at VHS by playing surface (most games have been played in Neutral sites or in Knoxville):

Field Turf (2009 - 2014) - 0-2
Astroplay (2003 - 2008) - 1-0
Natural Grass (1984 - 2002) (1915 - 1969) - 2-0
Astro Turf (1970 - 1983) - DNP

So, the only two times UT and Ole Miss have played in VHS on Natural Grass, UT has won. Ole Miss has never beaten UT at VHS on any surface other than Field Turf.

Is there just a concrete slab underneath the turf at VHS?

We had bermuda grass before which is very sensitive to light and weather variations. I hope that we go with a real athletic turf this time around.
