The old BCS would have bama and FSU 1 and 2. Oregon would be left out.

Would have to be Oregon, right? Arizona would be viewed as inferior to Miss St, in terms of losses.

FSU would be in for sure, I think. The BCS rewarded undefeateds above all else.

this because it's the game everyone would want to see.

Oregon. The humans would have ensured FSU got in, and Alabama would get the benefit of recent history.

Alabama has a loss, too. Oregon also has the better resume.

Because they get the benefit of recent history, as I said.

I think 4 team playoff is the best possible system in cfb. 8 team will have way too many undeserving teams. For teams that are left out this year, if you lose a game or two you're at committee's mercy and you don't control your own destiny anymore.

2004 Auburn definately deserved a shot and so did several others in BCS era.

Oregon is the only team to beat the team they lost to. They crushed that team by 40 points on a neutral field.

Oregon beat two Top 10 teams, Alabama only beat one. Both teams beat four Top 25 teams in total.

Oregon also has more quality road wins, and their margin of victory is bigger.

What is the case for Alabama? They play in the SEC which was totally overrated this year?

Agreed. Once the excitement of the playoff gets underway, no one will be talking about the controversy of this weekend. Expand to 8, and you get into the territory of devaluing the regular season. If you take the top 8 this year, Michigan State would be in the running for a national title.

This isn't the only way, though. For example, two spots could be reserved for non-Big 5 conference champions. Call it the Boise State rule.

Then it ceases to be a straight up playoff. I would rather not see little rules get added like automatic bids from conference champions.

Alabama would get the benefit of playing the most challenging schedule amongst all three teams and thus being the most impressive one loss team in the nation. Not sure what history would have to do with it.

If we were taking 64 football teams, then by all means, copy the basketball format. The point of the playoff is that the best teams get in. What if there are upsets in the non-Power 5 championship games, or there isn't a truly dominant team from those conferences?

They didn't get crushed at home by 20 points. But hate on.

I think the SEC was very overrated this year.
