A bit of an inflated sense of their academic prowess. Doesn't OU routinely rank slightly above Ole Miss and Mississippi State?

Never once have I heard of OU being a beacon of academic excellence. I'm not saying it's a bad school by any means but definitely not something spectacular. I assume they have a reputable meteorology dept given its geographic location but I have no idea.

Perhaps the worst/easiest law school in the country.

We're ranked 47 spots ahead of Oklahoma in the US News and World report rankings

They'd bring the academic profile of the Pac 12 down worse than ASU

Everyone out here in Dallas make fun of OU academically. Texas Tech is about the only one OU may edge out.

There are 8 SEC schools ranked higher on the U.S. News Best Schools list.

I was about to come in here and post something about it.

I don't care much for some the criteria US News uses for its rankings but Oklahoma is at #108. I assumed about a half dozen SEC schools would be above that with a number of them being around Oklahoma's position.

And as someone else already posted... you don't have to have some high number to be a good school or want to go to school X. But damn, if you're going to talk about going to a conference (formed out of athletic competition) because you want better academic peers... maybe you should worry about you're own academics first.

Oklahoma is a school with a great football tradition. Academically... well...

Despite what folks want to believe there is no great shortage of very solid academic schools in the SEC.

Academics wise they fall somewhere around the middle, perhaps a bit back, in the conference. We would not take Oklahoma because they were putting Harvard and Stanford to shame when it came to academics.

They play football, and they have played it well. That is what they have to offer and it is pretty well all they have to offer.

The SEC has 4 AAU schools: Vandy, Mizzou, Florida, & A&M. So suck it.

The USNWR is the academic world's equivalent of the National Enquirer.

I had no idea Sooners considered themselves in the Texas A&M, Florida, and Vandy class.

Well I'll be.

Zero U president is a snob who wants to put lip stick on a pig. Historically ou might be the most outlaw program in the country.

I've had several Okies insist to me OU is the top academic institution in the Big 12.
