There are some true believers in the Ole Miss fanbase that cursed Hootie to high heavens last week for attacking their savior, Freezus. One Ole Miss beat writer dismissed the Nutt lawsuit as "fake news".

As it turns out, the fake news saved Ole Miss ~$16M in contract buyout money. The NCAA now has Freeze's scalp, so they likely won't penalize Ole Miss much further. Ole Miss can hire a new coach for $5M, play dumpster-dweller for a few seasons under modest sanctions, then build towards the future.

Houston Dale Nutt and his lawyers should receive lifelong paid-for tailgate slots in the Grove for their God's work. Each plot should come fully-loaded with cold Walmart chicken tenders, paper mâché horse centerpieces, Kentucky Tavern bourbon 750ML bottles w/ Dr. Thunder mixers, and a couple of drunk sloots in sundresses.

One aside - a special shoutout to Freeze and his lawyers for forgetting (or choosing not to) to redact a phone number from a 6-day period in January 2016. Your Adobe Pro skills need work, but we appreciate you.

Thanks HDN. You weren't the hero we thought we needed, but you were the one we got. Despite your transgressions (Jacksonville State, shitty recruiting and academics, Mettenberger Mercy Knee, and an 0-8 SEC record in single season), I consider us (almost) even.

To all of you Ole Miss fans that still hate the man that eventually "Dammed the Beaver":

Not even close.

The NCAA will hit OM just as hard as they would if Freeze was still coach. And Freeze will still get a show cause even if he is unemployed.

The NCAA could hit OM even harder, especially when your AD specifically and publicly reports that Freeze's firing had nothing to do with the NCAA investigation. That's another slap in the NCAA's face.

It's possible, but that's just one way to look at it.

Maybe the NCAA got what they wanted and understand further punishment only hurts the players now that dirty Freeze is gone. That's the other coin.

For whatever reason, Ole Miss believes Freeze wasn't a dirty cheater on the recruiting trail. Will be fascinating to see if they still defend him at the COI. Gonna be lit.
