He was mentioned by 247 last night and now ESPN is saying this:

quote:

"@GoodmanESPN: Tennessee has Minnesota coach Richard Pitino on its short list of top candidates, multiple sources told ESPN

Most of these guys don't. It's actually pretty astonishing how stupid they reveal themselves to be on twitter without the filter of those who do have knowledge to help them along. Just goes to show you how much they rely on their producers, writers, and teleprompters just to be serviceable on air or in formal print and even then they still comes across as utter morons most of the time.

TBF, I thought he did a solid job at Minny this year. He worked at Florida for a bit too, so it'd be interesting watching him vs BD.

Cuonzo's already gone. Pitino at least has the name to draw recruits and enough connections to get marquee OOC opponents. He's still learning, that's without a doubt, but I don't mind him being on the list and wouldn't be unhappy if he were hired. I mean hell aren't you guys constantly reminding us of how we can't land a proven coach? If so, why not consider Jr.?

I think, personally, Pitino needs just another year at Minny under his belt before making a jump.

I don't think hiring him would be a terrible hire. Although I'll still give ya'll shite anyway

Well you're talking about a guy who learned everything from one of the best coaches you've ever had. He seemed to do a pretty good job this year, I'd say he'll land a big job pretty soon.

Well we all know how hiring people based on their name and one decent season works out.

Petino Jr is overrated, he had some horrible losses this past season and underachieved with a team that made it to the NCAA third round last year

Haha very true. And you know this board would run wild with that shite. I do think that the guy can coach though. He wouldn't be in my top group to hire at UT, but if somehow he was hired, I wouldn't complain.

I get what you're saying but with Stokes gone, Martin missing on Rhett and Martin very much looking like he'll take the less than 24hr 7 foot commit with him, next year may well be written off to an on-the-job training year and facing Cal and Donovan would be very good for any coach looking to notch some experience that he can learn/improve from.

Understandable but in fairness you gotta admit that you, or at least most gator and wildcat hoops fans, would likely give us hell if we hired John Wooden reincarnate and/or miraculously reawakened him from a cryogenic slumber.
