baseball is difficult for sure.

Basketball has a case as well. A player has a good year and he leaves for the NBA

For Ole Miss, basketball. It might change when we get the Pavillion but for about 50 years it's had to have been tough recruiting guys to play in a place that looks like space mountain. Not to mention our terrible basketball history

Baseballs.

Fans get all excited when they sign top recruits, only to see them sign for millions months later.

Baseball has to compete with the pros and scholarship limitations

I'm sure all have the pros and cons when it comes to recruiting

I think it really just comes down to your brand In a particular sport

Baseball.

Back when Laval was coach one of his biggest problems was that his recruiting classes were 'too' good. Lots of players he signed ended up signing with MLB instead.

You have to find players who are good, but not good enough to sign a MLB contract.

baseball. having the mlb signing deadline come after the fall semester starts is pretty ridiculous and something that coaches really cannot even control. i would absolutely hate having not only deal with recruiting against my competition but also recruiting against the wallet of an mlb owner and long after i can sign anyone new to replace a kid that jolts at the last minute.

Football... because of the variety of positions and skillsets required.

I think football because your having to sign so many players at different positions to fit your scheme. You have to recruit to the big picture and get players that will excel in your scheme. Baseball is difficult dealing with the draft, but those coaches have a general idea of who they can expect to make it campus. In baseball you don't have to recruit to a scheme. A dominant pitcher is a dominate pitcher no matte who he plays for. In football, you need specific types of players to fit each position to maximize the effectiveness of your scheme and that combined with the difficulty of projections in football makes it the most difficult IMO.

Basketball because there is 0 interest in a good player staying more than a year. How do you create a "program" with a bunch of one year players? You can't. They need to change the rules imo.

It also depends on your location. A lot of Big 10 teams can't recruit in baseball to save their life. Wisconsin actually had to give up their baseball program a few years ago. Seems odd...but their wrestling team and rowing crews are alive and well.

Edit: ok, it was 1991, not a few years ago. But they still don't have a team.

Baseball bc of the MLB draft. I literally dont keep up with baseball but I know a lot of guys use to be attracted to JUCO baseball because they didnt have to play a minimum of two years before entering the draft. I dont know if that has an effect anymore.
