Spurrier basically racked up titles when his biggest coaching competition was Phillip Fulmer.

Florida era: Stallings, Dubose, Fulmer, Nutt, Dinardo, Sherill, Donnan, Bowden - 2 NCs

USCe era: Saban, Miles, Richt, Meyer, Mullen, Franklin, Freeze, Malzahn - 8 NCs

Spurrier was a really good coach but what did he accomplish at USC that Holtz didnt?

1) He won the East.
2) 3 straight 11 win seasons.

That was easy, what's my prize?

fwiw The rest of your post is right -- Spurrier dominated a weak SEC at Florida.

18 game home winning streak. He's one of the greatest and you shouldn't try to diminish that

Florida era:

How did he do against Florida State, who was in their prime? He was about even in the 90s with them. Especially starting after he had a couple of years at Florida to get his system going.

The 1997 Sugar Bowl was his moment. Revenge game, like Bama 2011 before Bama 2011. Beat their asses 52-20 to set the record straight. Great system, great players, great team.

some of these idiots don't realize the train he ran on people at FL. He made teams quit when he was there. Fun and Gun was way ahead of its time and ran a lot of people out of a game before halftime. He scored at will and didn't care if you thought he ran up the score. One of the best coaches and likable guys ever. Trolls gonna troll

Im not saying he wasnt a good or even great coach, its more of a testament to how great the SEC is today.

Im sure one could make a similar argument for Bryant's era.
