What obviously stands out there, is the team that has played by far the fewest true freshmen has won the SEC East two years running.

My takeaway: experience, internal player development, and program stability matters.

Experience is great. Looks like your freshmen from the last 3 years didn't get any

Why does Tennessee claim they are such a young team? They are obviously full of shite!

Of course it matters. Mizzou also doesn't recruit well enough to have a lot of freshman ready to contribute day one. I'll bet MSU is the leader on the West side.

You would lose that bet.

They gained a redshirt year in the program developing skills and strength and learning technique, and learning what is expected of them from the upperclassmen, who were busy making trips to Atlanta.

2 things here

1. Florida, Georgia and Tennessee recruit more ready made players than the rest of the division. No surprise they play more freshman.

2. We are playing 8 this year alone and have the least experienced team we have had in a LONG time.

I think this is the flaw in a lot of SEC fan thinking.

A lot of Mizzou recruiting is based on taking players with the right athletic skills and projected learning ability with the expectation that they will redshirt and become great players by time they are upperclassmen, that's true.

But how does that mean Mizzou isn't "recruiting well" if by time those guys are becoming upperclassmen, such as in the past few years, they are churning out 10+ win seasons and division titles?

It's a different recruiting philosophy, but it's hard to say we don't recruit "well" if its producing results. Sure, when we recruit a former basketball player who has only a year of football under his belt but has the size and speed for a defensive end that you dream about, he's not gonna see the field right away. But Charles Harris is starting now and is on track to become another very good defensive end like the ones that have terrorized the SEC from our d-line the past few years.

No where you are full of shite is you dont realize you are moving the wrong way. Look how the freshman are increasing each season. Maybe Butch should learn to DEVELOP his current players

Ever since we saw half our roster get drafted early in the 2013-14 drafts, Les has pretty much said fck it with redshirts. If you're a true freshman who can play, you're going to be on the field.

Off the top of my head from last year...
Leonard Fournette, Darrel Williams, Malachi Dupre, Trey Quinn, Brandon Harris
Jamal Adams, Davon Godchaux, Sione Teuhema

Not sure if the OP's list includes ST contributors, so I'll leave it at this for now. I remember hearing a while back that we were behind only UT in terms of playing true freshman in the conference last year.

Because being under .500 at his job is considered good in Knoxville now

He was saying that MSU would play the fewest true freshmen in the West. You're just making his point for him.

So who plays the fewest in the West? I'm really not sure, but MSU seems like a good guess.
