Nick Saban is a man of his word. And a year after Dabo Swinney paid for his dinner after the Crimson Tide beat Clemson in the national title game, Saban returned the favor after the Tigers won the 2017 title game.

Swinney, speaking to College Sports Today Friday, said that the Alabama head coach paid up over their spring breaks.

“Absolutely. He paid up on my spring break,” Swinney said. “His spring break was the week before mine. He got me a really nice dinner certificate to a place called Temptation down in Florida. We had a great – probably the best meal I’ve ever had. It was awesome. We had appetizers and dessert to go with it. It was great. I did have to dip into my pocket for 50 bucks, though, but it was all good.”

Swinney also went a step further, and complemented Saban on gracious he has been with his time

And the Clemson coach added that he wouldn’t mind seeing the Crimson Tide for a third national title game bout in 2018.

“He was very gracious in that regard. With our fundraiser we’re having tonight, he actually signed a couple of helmets for me,” Swinney said of his All In Ball. “I really appreciate the graciousness of Coach Saban. I’ve seen him a couple of times and will be with him later on in May. He’s been nothing but very gracious. It was a heck of a football game. It was just like last year. A couple of plays like it was last year. Let’s do it again next year. Rubber match, let’s go.”

Fortunately for Saban and Alabama, Swinney won’t have Deshaun Watson to lead his offense, as the former Clemson quarterback is now off to the NFL. Despite a number of losses for both teams, both figure to be vying for another national title this coming season given how loaded both rosters are.

Alabama opens its season against another ACC foe, Florida State, on Sept. 2. Clemson hosts Alabama-rival Auburn on Sept. 9.
