There was never a real effort to find a HC. We looked at one coach. The one the AD wanted... He pleased the boosters by looking half-arse at Herman. We had 2 months to find a fit... No firm was used for a coaching search. O had the hearts of Louisiana, being a home grown boy... The truth, it was Jimbo or nothing.... Alleva destroyed college lives at Duke. He is killing the LSU Basketball program... And he just hired a Defensive Line coach with no DC experience... And a HC record that is worse than Charlie Strong. It's a good thing the we are only paying him 3 mil. We are going to have to pay top dollar for the OC and DC we have. And let them do well... They will be HCs the next season.... Stupid Stupid move LSU... MELT OVER.

This is irrelevant.

But your overall point is interesting. I think the booster expectations of Herman (ungettable)/Fisher (too comfortable) or bust played a large part in this.

All LSU did was keep together a great class, hire a man who will sacrifice everything for the program and reinvigorate the state. Terrible choice from your opinion right?

LSU fans are SO funny. That school has, almost without exception, gone to the "bargain bin" to find coaches.

So, with Miles gone, the LSU fanbase deludes themselves into thinking that the LSU AD will leave no stone unturned in an aggressive, nationwide and professional search to find the very best available HC and football mind. ABSOLUTE DELUSION.

The LSU AD, AT THE VERY LAST MINUTE, feints this way with Herman, feints that way with Jimbo and then like magic: "We will not be held hostage by Herman or Jimbo so Coach O is the new coach."

One would have to be a delusional fool not to see through this charade. It was a bargain bin hire and it was ALWAYS intended to be a bargain bin hire. There was NO professional coaching search. NO firm that performs coaching searches was hired (no, that would cost money).

So, the OP is right. LSU powers that be are banking on the fanbase's ability to delude themselves into thinking that there was a real search.

LSU's administrators are not LSU football fans. They are not serious about championship football at LSU. The LSU fans ARE serious about it, but, not the LSU administration.

So NOW the only thing LSU fans can do is to rally around the new HC. That is the noble thing to so. But there are questions out there that need to be answered:

Should the LSU AD be ashamed of the manner in which he played and tricked the LSU fanatics into rallying behind the new coach by deceiving them into the belief that there was a professional thorough and nationwide search?

Isn't it a shame when university admins who don't care about championship football take advantage of the fanatics who DO care deeply?

I agree with the OP on some points. There should have been a deeper list. Herman, despite his hot name isn't the only good coach out there.

This was a very short-sighted search.

There was no search. Alleva's past coaching "searches" at Duke and at LSU have produced below average results. And yet, despite that, LSU allowed Alleva to conduct his own coaching "search" for Miles's replacement.

LSU is a bargain bin shopper that takes advantage of the fanaticism of the LSU football supporters by using deception. That's not a noble way for a university to behave.

Just an FYI-You know how it's considered a dick move for the POTUS to go abroad and criticize America? Same rule applies here. Keep it within the family. On the Rant.Or the Coaching Changes board. Or go buy a jersey from another SEC school and set up shop here.

? ? ?

This is not a pay site. We are not employed by LSU. Everyone on this site can see every board. So the whole,"keep it in house" is stupid. You are not in a war room, pimp. I extended my thoughts to the SEC as a whole. To get feedback from everyone. Not just "The Family."

I got banned from the Coaching Board, maybe I could have been more eloquent. However, my feeling was they never really had the money the fans thought they had. I will leave it at that.

Uhh, yall just hired a coach who, during his short and laughable tenure as a head coach, recorded just two wins against teams with winning records and has the tremendous accomplishment of not winning a single conference game in a season on his resume. I'd be pissed too. And for shite's sake, it's only been a day since it was officially announced and yet here you are pissing and moaning about people being unhappy. Who's the real whiner here?

That's not the issue, IMO. They were bidding on a coach who is very comfortable where he's at and has a lot of job security (Fisher) and on a coach whose dream job (through no fault of LSU or lack of opportunity on their part) was Texas (Herman). They could've been willing to pay $5M-$7M and it wouldn't have changed much in the search. Herman's not worth $7M and Fisher's not worth a 10 year contract.

I tend to agree with you.
People that have never managed budgets don't recognize that the money has to come from somewhere.

If 10 years at $6 mil/per was a real request, would it be responsible to commit to $60 million when there are already significant commitments on the books already, (Les and Cam's contract).

This was a fiscally sound decision, that allows for some debt to get off the books over the next 2 years. If it works out now, great. If not, there will be the money available at that point for big $ hire.
