The game was not as close last year as 45-40 indicates, but it was still close. That onsides kick was probably one of the biggest "nuts on the table" calls I've ever seen, and it worked. If it doesn't, that game has a much different second half. Bama may have still won, but from that play on, Clemson was playing catch up both in the score and mentally.

Clemson is the only kind of team (mobile QB that can throw) that has proven to rattle Saban's teams from time to time. Watson is dangerous and brings so many things to keep up with. Bama has gotten a lot better at this since Manziel stoked the idea that this is the way to beat them, but it is still the closest thing to their Achilles heel.

I just think that Hurts is not quite ready to be what they need at the QB position (though he will be) and the OC transition will make that worse.

Flame away.

I respect your opinion. They're a good team. I hope the new year has treated you well. God Bless

Nothing to flame about this post but Watson is going to have to be more careful with the ball if they are going to win. His can't have two TO's imo.

Yea going to be another tough game unless our defense can pick him off a bunch.

Well, the nearly instantaneous downvote is symptomatic of what I was referring to. My feelings are hurt now.

None taken. Clemson is a great team with as high a ceiling when they play well as anyone in America. We could certainly lose this game and it's not unreasonable to pick it that way.

The onside kick wasn't to steal points it was to give the defense a break. Bama kept scoring quick on big plays and the defense was placed right back on the field. Even after the onside kick Bama scored quickly and put the defense right back on the field.

It's just the amount of big plays and tempo was too much for any defense.

Clemson won't score 30 on this defense unless Alabama is not sustaining drives and is scoring quickly on big plays.

So BAMA will most definitely win?

I'm more impressed this year's Alabama defense than anything. The amount of scoring they produce is just bonkers. I suspect that will come into play and I think for that reason Alabama wins.

Clemson is such a good. Team, but I think Hurts will minimize his mistakes.

Not flaming material. It looks like Clemson's year. Still taking Bama because of my fandom.

If Watson has the same passing stats against bama that he had against Ohio state, Clemson is going to lose by a lot. 260 yards, 1 td and 2 ints. He's not going to be able to run against this team, we are better all around on defense this year, but especially against QB runs. Also we can stop their normal running game with just our front 7, and our linebackers are all good n coverage. He's going to have to repeat his passing performance from last year, 400+ yards. Only, we are also better rushing the passer and calling up wicked blitzes.

If I had a good comeback for this, I would so hit you with it.

But, I don't.

I hate to say it but you are dead on. If Hurts doesn't show dramatic improvement over his last few games we could easily fall behind and find ourselves unable to recover. I believe our best shot is to establish the running game early and play keep away.

Two words: We'll see.

I'm pretty confident we will win though. I see DW throwing 3 picks or getting knocked out of the game. Our offense plays lights out and defense depresses millions across the country. Don't be surprised if our defense makes Clemson offense look pedestrian.

Hell if we lose, then we have all off-season to be depressed. I'm just not buying into it.

You have the right to pick who you want. To tell the truth, I'm worried about Clemson. I wanted to play Ohio State.

Objectively, this is true. Kelly at Ole Miss fit that mold as well.

The key isn't just being mobile, it's being able to go quickly. Saban (and any other defensive coach) is defeated when you have offensive personnel on the field that are able to switch schemes without changing people out. You force the defense to stay base, or catch them in a heavy or pass-coverage package, recognize in a timely manner that you can switch to a play that exposes the weakness, and keep moving fast enough to prevent defensive substitutions. You need the QB to be able to recognize this, and Watson is probably the best option available.

I think the plan is going to be to force Alabama to go into pass defense, then try to run read-option with Watson and Gallman.
