But on this board, where there are people who've hated him since he was at Auburn because they're Bama and LSU fans, its dumb to act like that isn't still a driving force.

Maybe some, but I think most of them are just poking fun at the Auburn fans that have latched on to Cam's NFL success and have become Panthers fans. Most college football fans want to see players from their school succeed in the NFL, but some Auburn fans have taken it a bit overboard with Cam. Some if it is understood given what he brought to Auburn, and how good of a player he is, but the extent of it is odd.

FTR, I enjoy watching Cam play because he is really good. I could do without some of his on-field antics, but it doesn't really bother me that much because he at least backs it up with his play. His leaving the press conference last night didn't really even bother me that much.

The main reason I don't like Cam is his thuggish background and his attitude on and off the field which is all too common among football players in general. In general, I prefer players that humble and do their celebrating after the game is won when their is something to celebrate. I don't like cocky/arrogant players which pretty much describes Cam and his ilk.

What's Cam's thuggish background, the laptop thing, or the reading to kids while at Auburn thing?

If it's his single brush with the law, I guess I have a "thuggish" background too.

overboard with Cam

Consider it the rubber band effect. You guys went overboard with cam, now we're going overboard with cam. Maybe in 5 years it will reach an equilibrium.

Because, and maybe it's not the case, with a sign up date of December 2010, cam might very well be the reason you're here.

I get that, hence me talking about how overnight a lot of people who were passive Cam fans became rabid Cam haters.

I'm sure a lot of those ranting about Cam Newton being the root of all evil will be talking about how he doesn't bother them when next season comes around. It's part of the deal on this website.

I'm not sure what your intentions were with this thread, but opposing fans celebrating Cam losing is WAY more obnoxious than AU fans cheering for him in the pros.

I honestly think people would hate him much more if he wasn't black. While he does draw ridicule for some of the things he does, such as how he dresses and his on the field showboating, I think those criticisms would be significantly amplified of he was white. He's given a pass on all of those things to an extent because he's black. That might be shitty but I think it's the truth.

Honestly, VERY few care about the crap that happened at AU and Florida, though it is amusing to bring it up.

That's a lie. Plenty of players practice his on the field antics and always have. You're in denial if you think the AU/ATPB stuff doesn't put him under a microscope for most of this board. Should he show a little more maturity and class on the field? Sure, that's a perfectly understandable criticism. But this board criticizes pretty much everything regarding Cam, from what he named his child to what he decides to wear.

But speaking of annoying, it's laughable a Bama fan would make this post. Just be honest with yourself. The reason the AU Cam/Carolina Panthers fans bother you so much is because you wanted finality to the "scandal", and Cam flaming out would have quenched that desire. It didn't happen, and you're forced to try and tolerate the success of someone everyone pegged as a sure flop - all the way from when he transfered to AU from Blinn to being drafted #1.

After watching his post-game presser, the media got far more out of Cam than they ever have Belichick after a loss.

And I'm a Pats fan and love the guy.

I can understand why a Bama fan is upset, as all their players are either shite or hurt in the NFL

pretty much. Its easy and somewhat expected for fans to support something they have an attachment to. Its a bit perplexing when you go out of your way to disparage something you dont.

While I'm sure there are people who don't like Cam because he's black, I don't think many of them are on this site.

As for him getting a pass, when did that happen? Guy has been heavily scrutinized in sports media since Auburn.

Personally, I get why he ruffles feathers, he's way more emotional than I'd prefer. But in reality, most people don't hate him at all. The numbers on this site are inflated because a) It's a CFB site with SEC emphasis and b) there are tons and tons of Saints fans on this site, and Saints and Bama fans are probably the two groups most likely to hate Cam Newton.

To be fair, people are disparaging everyone who filled up the board with CAM GOAT posts for 3 months. Most, at least.

I imagine it will pass pretty quickly. At least I hope so. It was/is fun for a few days, but nothing past that.

BTW

"He is on pace for this stat line if he continues at his current rate (which I acknowledge he may not) and retires at 36 (which again, he may not.)

54789 passing yards, which would be top 10 all time
351 TDs which would be top 10 all time, likely top 7ish
9621 rushing yards, which would be top 40ish all time, 1st for a qb almost twice the next highest Randall Cunningham.
129 rushing touchdowns. This would put him around top 5 overall. The next highest QB would be Steve Young at 43. "

No doubt, and it will come full circle again this time next year when they win the Super Bowl.

And many of those threads were created in response to people disparaging him.

While this is my point, it is unsurprising that the victim mentality has been taken up by so many on here.

Yea, he's a very unique and excellent player. I do imagine he will have to refine his game as he ages. He won't still be able to pound into the line for 4 yards once he turns 30. But, based on his improvements the last couple years, I'm sure he will be up to the task.

That's why I said gets a pass "to an extent". I think of he were white and behaved exactly the same he would get absolutely roasted way worse than he does now. This is all of course in my opinion.
