if you say so, who cares. both are/were good QBS, and only one still in college.

why are you riding Cam's jock for his play on a rival's team 5 years ago. lol

i think Watson is a much better passer and i assume quicker than Cam. Cam is bigger.

Watson started last season coming off a bad knee injury and most likely wins the natty if not for bad special teams play. he spread the ball around to several WRs and Clem was without their best two WRs.

Yea - that is the only other guy I would probably say is in that conversation.

Winston was great, but his 2nd season he wasn't really "dominant".

Manziel is the only other guy who could control a game by himself like Watson does.

I'd consider giving the nod to Watson simply on the principle that controlling the game also involves controlling the outcome, and Watson took his team further than Manziel. But Watson has only one "great" year under his belt, with his freshman year being pretty typical of good quarterbacks starting out. Better than average but not supernal or anything. Winston wasn't actually too shabby his second year. He just wasn't quite as effective because teams were game-planning for him a bit better. It'll be interesting to see if Watson experiences a bit of a decline too.

Honestly, I'd have a helluva time picking between Watson, Winston and Manziel, despite what I said above. The former two went further, but Manziel has two great years to draw from to Watson's one and Winston's...one and a half or so. Right now, I'd give it to Manziel for overall performance. I don't think this contradicts Saban's perspective, since he was just talking about the current status quo as of the end of the 2015 season.

Now, if we were talking about the best college quarterback ipso facto of the last 5 years, then we have to give Luck serious consideration. But I don't think that's what Saban was talking about.

Watson didn't start the first two games of his first season, which was at UGA and at FSU, which is as difficult as it gets starting out. He was backing up Cole Stoudt. If he played the entire FSU game, likly would have won, given only lost due to a late fumble after a FSU turnover. to be fair, Winston was suspended for this game.

Probaby would have lost UGA game even if he played the whole game but that was lost mostly due to several starters on defense being suspended and Gurley being a top RB.

the G Tech game would have been won by CU if Watson dosn't have freak injury to his knee as he was getting close to putting the team up 10-0. That was G Tech's best team in forever by the way.

so he could have possibly only had 1 loss max in his entire career if he had started the entire season his first year and not got hurt.

y'all SEC guys will suck uup to certain programs and their players outside of SEC. Oregon seems to be on the brownnosing list. that always surprised m b/c their style isn't a typical SEC style.

if watson was on bama or lsu or auburn or florida or uga, the gushing would be over the top for him lol

Not to belittle Watson's ability, but everybody's got a sob story. You even mention Gurley in your comment, and UGA found a way to win without him. Once you're down to nitpicking the details, you've lost your momentum. That said, I'm perfectly content with the suggestion that another great year, even if it doesn't lead to the playoffs, would probably cement Watson at the top of the trio under discussion here, with only the slightest asterisk appended because he will have had more game experience than the other two did over their careers.

Are you not reading the thread. People are perfectly happy giving him, and Winston, their dues. Choosing to actually discuss the topic rather than anoint a winner post-haste isn't actually a bad thing, you understand.

I thought he looked pretty damn good in the NC game. I can't say that I have seen him enough to know if he is consistently that good.

All I could think about watching that championship game last year was how close Auburn was to signing Watson. Oh the things Malzahn could have done with that kid.

Tebow was about as dominant a college player as I have ever seen.

Bad coaching and turn him into a defensive back?

So if Clempson doesn't win the Natty with Watson this year should they ask for a refund?

I know you do. Malzahn's record with a competent QB speaks for itself.

i haven't seen much defense in SEC last few years. and last year, not much offense.

Clemson took Cam's team to overtime and lead 17-0 in the game until the QB got rocked. but he was dominating the SEC.

Did your QB somehow give up 17 points when he got rockers?

That Auburn team around him was garbage but he put up insane numbers and played good defenses in Alabama, LSU, Clemson, and UGA

i'm discussing the topic and expressing an opinion, this isn't a consensus building thing, 'post-haste' or not, you understand.

i've never heard anything about Auburn being close to signing Watson. I think Clemson made Watson an offer his freshman year in high school.

Fair enough. I think if I was ranking the top CFB QB of last 20 years it would go

Cam
Mariota
Tebow
RGIII
Luck
JFF

So the best QB's in the last 20 years are QB's from 06-present ('10-present if you take out Tebow)? No.

kind of an odd statement given Auburn's defense shut down SC in the SEC title game, and Oregon in the national title game. Winning 22-19 in the title game isn't just because of Cam. that's some good defense.
