He's on some sort of 50 states in 2017 tour. So, I'm sure if he was going to Alabama it was suggested that'd be an interesting place to visit. I think he also went to Birmingham and Selma.

He's touring all 50 states this year. I know he was in Mobile for a parade on Sunday and went to the bayou to meet with shrimp boat captains and fishermen. Guess he rode north after that and toured the Birmingham/Tuscaloosa area
