Naw, Mack will be retained for another couple of years until he breaks Royal's record at UT. Then he'll end up taking the AD job, and Mack Brown will hire the next HC. That's just the way the UT Good Ole Boy Network operates.

You have no idea how The University of Texas operates.

Darrell Royal was pretty much run off, his recommendation for his successor was completely ignored (in fact, Texas hired Akers, whom Royal came back and spoke out against getting the job), and his title as athletics director following his stint as coach was in name only.

The big boosters run the show in Austin, and they are restless.

ETA - And for the record, the idea of Saban coming to Austin is completely ridiculous.

No way is Saban leaving for UT. He is unfortunately very happy at Bama.

He is selling a nice investment property though.

The real story at Texas right now actually goes well beyond Mack. It's more about Powers (the President) and Dodds. Powers supports Dodds and Dodds supports Mack. Texas is getting very close to a serious enema though where the boosters and the BoR have finally had enough and clean house.

The funny thing to me is most Texas boosters support Powers because they think Rick Perry (Aggie Governor) is trying to get rid of him. They don't care how incompetent the guy is, they just can't stand the idea of an Aggie trying to force anything on them. Texas has been in neutral academically and athletically since Powers took over but he is a master politician at getting Texas folks to think it is mean ol' Rick Perry who has it out for him.

I also am convinced DeLoss Dodds has a file cabinet of info on powerful people that would have made J Edgar Hoover envious. It is the only reason I can imagine he still has a job, no man does less with more.

As an Aggie though I hope they all stay on board for years to come, they are the gift that keeps on giving.

It has been well-proven that Perry is behind trying to get Powers ousted.

Emails tell different story about Perry links to higher ed 'reforms'

Don't disagree Perry would like to replace Powers, the question is why don't Texas people want him gone? It goes a long way past the "reforms" as well, under Powers Texas has been stagnant academically, had multiple scandals, and Powers has fallen short on virtually every goal he has set.

He has done a great job of making Perry into the bogeyman though. Every time I ask a horn about Powers they talk about Perry but they never want to talk about what Powers has done either for good or for bad. You do realize that Powers was chosen by a BoR that was appointed by Perry, right?

Faulkner was a great President for Texas who did many great things, I just don't see how a lot of Texas folks look at where you were in '06 when Powers took over and think you are better off now then you were then athletically or academically. If you love the guy though more power to ya!

And they would do it too. But if you're Mack Brown this has to piss you the hell off.

Because Texas alums don't want Powers replaced by a Perry lackey who would implement changes that would ruin UT academically, that's why. And that is definitely where things were heading.

That's pretty damned simple. I'd rather have Powers with all his warts than someone who would destroy our reputation in short order.

Stupid quote; Texas with Saban--not that it would ever happen-- would do perfectly well against TAMU.

Texas is still the big dog; TAMU...not really

And Bama would match $10 mil. Texas would have to go higher than $10 mil. Could tu go higher than $10 mil, probably. But I doubt they will.

Yep, it's that bogeyman Perry who is out to destroy Texas! He secretly plans on destroying one of the 2 Flagship Universities in the State by demanding they raise more money, increase graduation rates, make education more affordable, and spend more money on research!

Have fun with your current Perry appointee I suppose, he has certainly been great for A&M!

You seriously don't know WTF you are blabbering about.

What gives that away is that Perry wanted UT to put LESS focus on research.

Fundraising at UT has been just fine (Srsly?).

Make education more affordable? Is that why PERRY was behind allowing state schools to set their own tuition rates while cutting state funding?

Is this Anita I'm jousting with, or what?
