Getting it ready for UGA using the tried and true formula....don't let the grass grow to set firm roots during the off season. Pull everything up and start over so it will be nice and loose by the end of September.

What shitty maintenance crew can't get sod to root over 4 months of prime growing season?

Y'all should call the folks at MTSU in Murfreesboro....I hear they know how to make the grass grow

I feel like years ago Neyland was viewed as having one of the better playing fields in the country. What exactly happened in the field of growing grass that changed all of that?

The guy who handled it forever retired a few years ago, so they hired another guy who sucks. Despite having one of the best turf management professors in the whole country literally on-campus, the new guy refuses to listen to him and does it how he wants. The guy who retired has also said he'd gladly help out if they asked him, but the current UT guy wont reach out.
It's more complicated than that but that's the simple version. Basically just a microcosm of the dysfunction that runs top to bottom through the entire UT system. Cant do anything right.

Changed groundskeeper (Campbell retired in 2010).
Neyland Turf Sucks Article
Actually...it should be fine this year. The problem between 2010 and 2015 was that they didn't replace the sod until June. Last year they brought in the new surface the first week of May and it was much better. End of April replacement should be plenty of time for it to take hold. What they Hell were they thinking doing it in June?

The field maintenance guy (don't remember his actual title) who was in charge for like 30 years, retired. The university hired some guy who is a turf manager at some local golf courses or something, and it's been fricked up ever since.
Oh, and we're paying the new guy 3x as much as we paid the old guy. It's unreal how much of a shitshow our AD is.

lol it is like we purposely try to suck at everything now. Getting in a pissing contest over field turf sums up UT's administration perfectly. We need a serious draining of the swamp

Albert Haynesworth tweeted @ Trump after the Vandy game
"Can you Make Tennessee Great Again?"

Should have made Haynesworth AD, If Butch lost to Vandy again you know he would get his head stomped.

I'm glad that Auburn's AD lets the groundscrew do their thing. They paid a sh** ton in overtime to those guys but it really pays off and our fields for all sports are fantastic

Nice excuse. So, does that buy the groundskeeper another year?

Most SEC and several NFL stadiums use sod shipped from south Alabama, looks like Tenn. should have done the same instead of the cheap stuff evident in the photo.
