I think that with the High School football tournaments, SECCG and NCAA/SEC basketball tournaments, the Chickfila Bowl, the Chickfila Kickoff game, and then the insane amount of religious and professional conferences (such as Passion) held there, the Dome will live on without the Falcons

The Passion crowd kind of freaks me out.

The conference and fellowship itself is all fine and dandy, but damn if some of those folks don't just ride an obnoxious, month-long wave of in-your-face evangelism that takes "wearing it on your sleeve" to a new level.

I'm also looking for a new place to jam out with my band. Garage isn't cutting it anymore.

Dome is being torn down once the new stadium opens in 2017.

I posted the wrong link. Here's the article I meant to link:

quote:

The deal also calls for the Falcons to fork over roughly $60 million to pay off much of the debt on the state-owned Georgia Dome, which would be demolished, according to two of the sources. The current debt on the dome is about $98 million. The city of Atlanta likely would issue the remaining $200 million bonds for the stadium, backed by the city’s hotel-motel tax, the two people said.

Superdome and the Georgia dome are pretty equal. The dome got hit by one the biggest storms in history while the GD got hit by a tornado that lasted 3 minutes. Katrina lasted a whole day. But it is hard to defend the lights going out during America's biggest sporting events

Let's face it: The GA Dome is better because of the GA World Congress Center, Phillips Arena, CNN Center, World of Coke, GA Aquarium, and Centennial Olympic Park (and, soon to be, CFB HOF) all in close proximity to one another.

Hartsfield-Jackson being the biggest, baddest airport in the world also helps its case.

On its own, the GA Dome is nothing special. It wins because of its neighbors (and the relative unlikelihood to get stabbed/shot, as is the case in NO)
