Here is the scenario:
My first cousin is an executive director at a major Big 12 school, one of a few Big 12 schools we all HATE.
He and his wife invited us to Thanksgiving at their house and he wants all the guys to go to his school's football game on Saturday. Normally, I'd never willing choose to go to this school's games in any sport, but he is my cousin and for whatever reason he wants us go to this game on Saturday.
You may think it's to bond, but he actually won't be with us. He'll be in the Presidential Suite schmoozing rich donors. That's his job. He is required to attend all football games specifically to network with high dollar donors.
He called today excited for Thanksgiving and Saturday's game. I faked excitement for the game, at which point he dropped this on me:
"I have one additional ticket to the Presidential Suite. Perhaps my father inlaw can watch the kids and you can watch the game in the Presidential Suite. I'll be working so I won't be able to watch it with you, but I thought it would be a cool experience."
I replied, "I'd hate for your father inlaw to be forced to watch all the kids while I sit in the Presidential Suite. Can your father inlaw and I use the ticket at different points during the game...you know, share the ticket."
He said, "Sure. I guess so. I just thought you'd like to see how rich donors experience a football game."
(I really don't care about that. It's not my preferred way to experience a college football game, but whatever.)
I replied, "I'd would like to see the suite, but I feel obligated to help your father inlaw watch the kids...especially since my kids will be there."
"Okay...you and my father inlaw can share the suite ticket."
(This is where the story took an unexpected downward spiral)
"Just so you know, I'm planning to wear a Mizzou stocking cap to the game."
His playful excited tone immediately switched to a dead serious tone, "Please don't do that! I beg you to not wear any Mizzou gear."
I replied, "Why does it matter? I'm not a fan of your school. I'm a Mizzou fan. Plus, it's just a stocking cap. I'm not planning to wear all my Mizzou gear."
"Please don't wear any Mizzou gear to this game. This isn't a Mizzou game! Please don't be that guy. If you wear Mizzou gear you cannot visit the Presidential Suite."
I said, "What do you expect me to wear?"
He replied, "I was hoping you'd wear my school's gear."
"That'll never happen. I'M NOT A FAN OF YOUR SCHOOL! I love college football and I know you want us to have a good time at this game which is the only reason why I'm going to this game. But you know I'm a Mizzou fan. I'll never wear your school's gear."
"That's just immature."
"No it's not. Why can't I wear Mizzou gear to the game? It's just a stocking cap."
"Wear whatever you want. If you wear Mizzou gear you cannot visit the Presidential Suite."
I replied with, "That's okay with me. I'll let your father inlaw visit the Presidential Suite and I'll watch the kids."
(At this point he got very mad and hung up the phone)
Am I the a-hole or is he being unreasonable? Or, is he being unreasonable and I'm also being an a-hole. I kinda feel like an a-hole but I also think he's being ridiculous.
Respectfully,

Personally can't stand people who wear team gear for a team that isn't playing in the game

So you'd wear team gear of a team you hate?

If I'm being honest, I hate people like that
Just wear something neutral

No. I'd probably wear a neutral colored shirt.

Wear the color of the team you are going to see.

I've went to other teams games before. I'll always wear a Mizzou hat or something. Same thing in baseball, always a Cards hat.
Not sure why that would bother anyone.

Behave and wear this.

I understand him not wanting you to wear Mizzou gear in the Presidential suite, as donors will be there.
But to think you would wear their gear is ridiculous. Just go casual if you go.

You're a grown man. Sack up and don't go to a game that you don't want to go to.

Exactly, JQ. But from responses in this thread you'd think Mizzou and St. Louis Cardinals fans are the only fans who would do this.
I mean, Jon Hamm wore a St. Louis Cardinals hate to a Cubs World Series game in Chicago.
Surely I'm not the only person who would do this.

Am I the only one here that is a little confused by what a stocking cap is?
I thought it was something you wore on your head to sleep in the '20's.

Personally, I don't wear Gator gear to games where UF isn't playing. Just go neutral.

I get this too which is why I told him I wasn't really interested in sitting in the Presidential Suite anyhow. I mean, he's going to be working so I'd just be sitting there by myself while my kids sit out in the cold. Doesn't make sense to me...

THANK YOU!!!!
