I know everyone is getting a laugh out of Carolina not making the field; but it shouldn't really be funny if you are a fan of an SEC team.

Sucks for our seniors, especially Carerra who missed the last 2 games. Have to think he would have made a 1 point difference vs UGA. All that aside....

It's clear that USC would have been much better off to LOSE to UNC, KU, Duke, etc than actually beat Tulsa, St Johns, USF, etc. I get those wins aren't necessarily feathers in our cap, but they shouldn't be a detriment either. Similarly, how does showing up to play against a better team somehow give you credibility? Literally, if Carolina had played @ Kansas and lost, instead of beating Tulsa, we'd be in.

It's not good for the SEC for the 3rd place team who won @ the conference champion (who went undefeated OOC against a garbage schedule - which at worst should be viewed neutrally) to not get a bid.

The SEC front office should file a formal complaint. The conference is not as bad as it is portrayed. I hope UK, TAMU, and Vandy represent well. Because this treatment is BS.

Should be? Maybe. Was. It doesn't appear that way.

Yeah, it clearly was viewed as a negative.

It's all a money grab IMO. NCAA tries to reward teams for scheduling high profile TV match ups early in season when no one watches NCAA bball. Unfortunately for us, we aren't a marquee program so there is really no advantage for a top OOC team to risk playing us.

incorrect, it's hammered dogshit.

I like A&M's squad, they hired a darn good coach and House is a monster.

Kentucky has horses that are inconsistent, you never know how far talent can take you in the tournament, but it can't be relied upon to carry you deep.

Vandy has been under-accomplishing all year. That game against Wichita St. is a must watch game it could be a classic.

No other SEC team deserved to be in. Rarely did any of the other SEC teams show up 2-3 games in a row.

That's fine.

If Vandy deserved to be in, then you can't leave USC out. Same conference record, 5 better overall, and a head to head win.

ETA: The 3rd best team in the SEC should get into the field of 68! its a power 5, freaking conference.

Alabama went 12-4 in the SEC a few years back and missed the tournament. If you don't like it, you have to change your OOC scheduling. This year, we played Wichita State, Notre Dame, at Clemson and Oregon in Birmingham. Challenge yourselves before January, because the perception of the SEC isn't enough to get you in.

Just like in college football where you start matters.

Vandy started regarded as a player to win the league.

S. Carolina started in the middle of the pack or maybe the back of it and like you said USCjr didn't play any quality OOC teams that would have gotten them some attention.

You're missing the point. We were on the bubble finishing 10th in the conference. South Carolina is out finishing third. Alabama did something that South Carolina didn't. OOC matters much more than in conference play.

USC played A&M and UK. Those were the only 2 teams in the top 50 on SC's schedule. The SEC is not a strong conference. Add that in to SC's extremely weak OOC and the committee had so little to base just how good SC really is on. You played 19 of 31 games vs teams outside the top 100 and still found a way to lose 3 of them including one to a sub 200 team.

You make a good point, however, the only top 50 teams that Vandy beat were... UK and aTm and they split those series. I hate to keep harping on Vandy because I feel they deserve to be there more than some, but it's true. Literally every other top 50 team they played, they lost.

I think losing 4 of our last 5 had more to do with it, but alright. We were a lock according to Lunardi before we lost to UGA the 3rd time.

And yet we finished 3RD in the conference, not 10th.

And we beat the Champion at their place....

If we had gone 10-5 OOC, then sure, leave us out. But we did enough in conference to get in provided we didn't falter out of conference, which we did not.

If SC had played and won the OOC games that Bama did, they'd be in. Martin will schedule a strong OOC next year and in the years to come.

If we win ONE of the last 4 games we lost, were in.

I think if we had played and LOST a decent OOC game, we'd be in.

Makes no sense to me.

Of course you didn't falter against that schedule. That's the point everyone is trying to make.

Jay Bilas explained it pretty well in the selection show.
