Who puts up a banner just for making the tournament?

I would guess Teams with not many championships.

Arkansas Banners: National Championship banner, National Runner Up banner, 6 Final Four banners, 10 Elite Eight banners, 10 Sweet 16 banners, 24 Conference Title banners, 7 Conference Tourney title banners.

No appearances banners

I would prefer we not hang banners for appearances.

Ours should be: 5 Elite Eight banners, 7 Sweet 16 banners, 15 Conference Title banners, 8 Conference Tourney title banners.

In regards to conference titles, Arkansas is fortunate in that they didn't play in a conference with a blue blood basketball school until 1992. If you took kansas out of the equation Mizzou would have several more.

Banners should only be hung for titles and Final Four appearances. This is what we do (and I think Kentucky). I guess conferences titles are okay though.

You act as if Arkansas was just a minor player on the national scene.

Our first Final four was in the 40's. We always scheduled tough, just ask Michael Jordan and the UNC Tar Heels.

Arkansas has played basketball about 30 years less than most programs, yet has better history than 80% of other programs.

That reminds me, why does Kansas claim 2 extra titles? This ain't football.

Missouri: 26* (2013) *lulz 0 final fours
But 15 Conference season championships and 8 conference tournament championships is not bad.

I'm not saying Arkansas still wouldn't be very successful, I'm just saying there would have been several of those years that you won a conference title where a blue-blood would've finished above you.

Same reason LSU fans tell you they have a national title in basketball

We have 6 SEC titles. Only need 41 more to catch Kentucky.

Or maybe the "blue blood" would have lost to us.

Arkansas went through periods of great competition in the SWC. Houston had good teams, Texas put good teams on the floor. SMU went through a strong period.

Yes of course, which wouldn't change the point that I'm making.

It puzzles me why Georgia's never had a consistent program (outside of the Harrick years).

We put everything we can squeeze in there. Men's and Women's for the following.

NCAA Tournament appearances (obviously if they made it to the Sweet 16 it'll say that on it too)

Conference titles, including ACC, SEC, and Metro

I know the 2 Men's NIT titles are up there, the women have never won an NIT but I think they put WNIT appearances on there

Retired numbers.

But yes if I were running a historical program I'd have a separate banner for NCAA titles, perhaps Final Four appearances, and then have one general NCAA tournament banner that has all the years of appearances on it. Same goes for conference titles.

I thought your BJ McKie (sp?) team in the 1990s was really good and always felt bad that they got upset twice in the first round and never won a game.

Well, I mean, I did feel bad, before I met you

Thanks ... yeah, our guards all made first team All-SEC that year. BJ McKie, Larry Davis and Melvin Watson were all first team All-SEC. Imagine what that team would have been like had Kevin Garnet and Jermaine O'Oneal not jumped straight to the NBA. Or, rather, O'Neal would have been a freshman the next year, but still.

I think we were 15-1 in conference play and beat Kentucky twice that year ... they went on to either win or play in the national championship game I think. Hell, it wasn't that long ago that SCAR with Renaldo Balkman beat Florida twice in the same year and should have beaten them in the conference tourney ... then Florida went on to win the national championship.

We've won a couple of NITs (championships) recently but those don't count.

Yep, a #3 seed and we lost 61-62 to the Richmond Spyders who had a reputation for knocking-off higher seeds (see Auburn and Barkley in the 80s for example). The year before we had lost as a #2 seed to Coppin State who was a 30 pt dog to us.
