NCAA is a sad institution for burning Rebs, but letting Tar Heels slide

NCAA letting school off
1 UNC / ACC
0 Rebs / SEC
Not like it is looking good in Oxford, but damn, cheating for 30 years at Chapel Hill and still no convictions. Maybe the Rebs need to steal the Tar Heels NCAA playbook.

It's clear that as long as your cheating involves only massive academic fraud that you're fine in terms of the NCAA. UNC won at least 1 national championship in basketball with multiple players who may have been ineligible and it is absolutely criminal.

Academic scandals, rape, sexual assault are all okay with the NCAA. But you better not couch surf at a coaches house or they'll throw max punishment on your program.

I won't make excuses for the things our school did. We cheated, and we deserve some punishment, but I understand some of the Ole Miss fans thinking the NCAA is going after us. Compare our situation to UNC's, Miami, Baylor, and Penn State. We don't deserve a worst punishment than at least two of those schools.. And before you down vote explain to me why Ole Miss deserves worse?

They draw the line at gas masks.

Paying players threatens the legitimacy/need of the NCAA, academic fraud only threatens the value of the degree from the institution. The NCAA is self-serving.

Have they made a final ruling in the UNC case?

In b4 LSU fan mentions Alabama and presents Instagram pics of players standing beside an $18,000 car as "evidence."

A good SMU team got barred from postseason play in basketball last year because one kid had someone take the ACT or a fake class for him. UNC basketball was too big of a brand to hit.

I think the NCAA is more lenient on programs with at least one true National Championship.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
I agree North Carolina might be getting off light. But North Carolina is a NCAA program that moves the ratings needle for the basketball tournament. Not saying it's right, just stating the reality.
It's not North Carolina's fault that nobody outside the grove gives a shite about Ole Miss football.

I'll ask again. Has a final ruling been made in the UNC case?
Last I saw they got a THIRD NOA in December as more and more charges continue to pile up.
Until they are cleared Miami style, not one person can say they were given special treatment.

People keep saying UNC is too big to hit but that hasn't stopped the NCAA from going after the likes of Ohio State and So Cal.
Trust me, I'm no fan of UNC but I don't think branding has to do with it. I just think the NCAA is inefficient and capricious in their investigations.

The ncaa muffed the unc and Miami investigations leading to revised standards during such.
Ole miss is the first team to get caught and continue the same illegal behavior since SMU in the 80s. Ole Miss is getting off light of the program doesn't recieve a similar punishment with the amount of level 1 violations they were found to have committed.

NCAA won't touch cash cows unless they have to. They will go out of their way to destroy small market teams though.

Come down from your cross.
Ole miss paid players, refused to fire the responsible staff, then payed players while the NCAA was in campus.
UNC fired Butch who was ultimately found to be innocent in regards to the allegations.

Baylor is way far from over, though. And it will be different with the Title IX implications, as well as the text messages that directly tie Briles to the situation.
I suspect the NCAA will setup shop there next.

The issue is that UNC has been entirely proven to have allowed a completely fraudulent educational program (primarily) geared at athletes for nearly 15-20 years, even though other students benefitted during that time. If they are allowed to slide for their transgressions then the NCAA loses all legitimacy in my eyes. Instead of paying players all you would have to do is promise them 1-3 years of fake classes.
