Vanderbilt could have had a really solid team this year before all the defections, but pre-season rankings were after all that happened.

I've been impressed with them so far considering what has happened.

Also, knowing the state of Vandy's team and that they were still picked 10th in the league makes me wonder just how bad 11-14 are.

Personally, I think Kentucky has been about where I expected them. They are young. You gotta expect some early losses when you play that schedule.

Tennessee has played some poor basketball so far. Their shooting has been absolutely abysmal, still Tennessee is a tough out for anyone with their athleticism.

I'm pretty high on LSU and while Missouri has played very good basketball up to this point, I see LSU having a better or equal SEC record. That Jan 21st game at LSU will be an important one for both teams.

And we can discuss how impressive Arkansas has been, but they haven't played a true road game yet... Where has their problem been for years? I still feel very comfortable beating Arkansas at home. Simple as that. Beating Minnesota on Neutral court is a pretty nice win but still nothing to change my mind on their ability to play away from home.

At this point, I'd say:

UF
Kentucky
Missouri

are in fairly good shape for the tournament, provided no major injuries occur.

Still think:

Tennessee
Arkansas
LSU
Ole Miss

all have a shot to get in depending on what happens in SEC play.

LSU currently with 4 top 100 RPI wins and their lone losses are to #1 RPI and #27 RPI (1 on road and 1 neutral).

They are #22 RPI themselves and have been consistently improving. I'd put LSU with the group that is in good position to make the tournament.

I think Tennessee has done themselves no favors at all and I think Ole Miss has a lot to prove before they are in consideration (zero top 100 wins). Arkansas has been better than expected and I see them as a possible bubble team along with Tennessee if they can turn it around.

For me:

IN (>75% SHOT)
UF
UK
Missouri
LSU

Still have shot (25%-75% SHOT)
Tennessee
Arkansas

Not likely but possible (<5% SHOT)
Ole Miss
Alabama

Alabama

The only way Alabama gets in the tournament at this point is finishing really well in the SEC regular season (top 3) with several good wins (don't see this happening) or winning the SEC tournament.

I agree it is a longshot, but there is noone else in the conference that has a shot. I think Bama at least has a small shot if they were able to get it together, still think anyone outside of UK, UF, LSU, Mizz, Tenn, and Ark would be a very big surprise.

Alabama will end up with a decent conference record but has virtually no shot at the tournament unless they win the conference tournament. They are the "unluckiest" team in KenPom right now.... that abysmal OOC record is too much for them to overcome. They are a decent team (I'm using decent pretty liberally). They will probably get some good wins in the SEC that will make whoever they beat look bad...

But they are not even close to capable of dominating SEC play as much as they will need to in order to boost their resume for the selection committee. Basically they are the SEC's wild-card because they have essentially no shot at making the tourney, but they will be a tough play (especially on the road).

Tennessee has once again been thoroughly disappointing in Non-Conference play, but I think they will make up for it in SEC play. They are good. They will finish with a very good record, and they will notch a good number of resume-building wins.

LSU is in better position than Tennessee. I haven't seen them play this year. They haven't played themselves out of the tournament, but they haven't played themselves into it either. It will really all come down to how they do in conference.

Tennessee will most likely go 12-6ish in SEC play. Cuonzo is horrendous, but somehow we are world beaters every February.

It would be best if we don't make the tourney.

Squeaking in would give Cuonzo another year.

Bama 8th? Why? And why the hell would anyone have UGA and USCe over Auburn at this point in the season? Oh yeah, lazy reporting. Crap article. Carry on.

The kid can definitely play but hopefully he won't have a complete brain dump like last season's preseason POY pick (Flip Pressey for those that don't remember).

agreed. if UT could be respectable in Non-conference play, that would be good for an easy 8 seed or so, but they are always just awful OOC. I don't get why.

I think they will make the tournament regardless, because they are pretty good, but they will have to have a good record in the SEC AND get some resume boosting wins. I'm sure they will win at home vs. florida (i'm numb to it at this point).. but they will also need a really good resume on-top of that.. which i think they will do.

BTW.. I think FSU is really underrated right now. I think they will be very competitive in a great ACC this year. I think FSU gets a 5-7 seed.

Dude.. they are WAYYY better than everyone in the SEC from 10-14. Terrible non-conference, but they will be competitive in the SEC. To me, 8-9th is worst case scenario for Bama.

They could easily finish near the top of the west. But no way they make the tourney.

Don't put too much into NC play.

Alabama was one of the only SEC teams that actually challenged themselves OOC. Yea, they fricked up... badly, but LSU, Arkansas, Missouri, and Ole Miss are not much better than them.. Bama is the unluckiest team in the entire NCAA according to Kenpom.

Like I said, essentially no chance at making the tourney, but don't be surprised if they finish near the top of the west.

You say you haven't watched us play. Our best player is new. We are ten deep. We have a lot of new faces.

This isn't the LSU you are used to. This team is capable of winning the sec.

Vandy will take care of this SLU, just like we did Georgia Tech. Then we got the Cats, and Missouri on our home court. The Razorbacks come later. Let the fireworks begin. Oh, and we will not neglect giving LSU our attention either.

Way to take care of SLU.

This has nothing to do with our road issues or where we stack up against the rest of the conference in play but I think it's pretty cool nonetheless.

CMA is good at this. He can really change a culture. He righted our ship after the nose-candy Snyder dumpster fire.
