I'll post without comment for now.

Oh my, that would generate some salt.

So traditionally the top 8 of this list are chosen as the national seeds?
Posted on 5/23/16 at 12:44 pm to Farmer1906
D1 guys said last week that no team has ever gotten a national seed with a losing record vs top 25. There was one case at .500

1. Miami
2. Florida
3. A&M
4. Louisville
5. Mississippi State

No, I doubt that has ever happened perfectly like that. This is just ranked by RPI.

That's crazy to me out of 16 teams there's only 4 losses to RPI 200+ teams.

Who did MSU lose to?

No. RPI is a tool. Last year, the #2 RPI team wasn't a national seed.

Not really. I don't think anyone outside the top 16 has ever been chosen but all the things on this list are looked at.
Louisville had a 12 RPI last year but got the #3 NS. Pretty comparable to State this year as they won the ACC.

It's pretty interesting to think about. Does record vs top 25 matter or does overall record matter? Would you rather be 3-13 against top 25 and undefeated otherwise?
Not sure what that says TBH

Eastern Kentucky in one of the oddest games I've ever seen.

West coast TV slot = $$$$
Might not be Fullerton, but some West coast team will be the #8.
Honestly, who is going to be the eighth?
No conference has ever gotten more than three, the SEC has four locks in my opinion. Miami and Louisville are locks, as is Texas Tech.
Does the ACC get a third?
Coastal Carolina? They just got swept three games by a lower half of the ACC Georgia Tech.

Miss State, Fla, A&M and South Car guaranteed national seed.

But who?
UC Santa Barbara is RPI 20, but 3rd in the Big West, 3 200+ losses, & 0 top 25 wins.
Arizona? Are they west coast enough? RPI 25, but 4th in the Pac, only 33 wins (20 losses already), and again zero top 25 wins.
No other west cost teams are anywhere close, not that these 2 are.

I'm betting those top five plus MSU, Texas Tech and Virginia. Those top five plus TT and State are iron clad locks IMO. One of those other teams winning the ACC or SEC tournament could supplant UVA.

not sure either.
I think they look at it that a NS should be favored even vs the top 25.
But obviously who in the top 25 you played matters. Why is 4-5 @1,@ 2, @3 somehow worse than 5-4 vs 23, vs 24, vs 25? But I do think when you hear a stat like that it's pretty obviously a factor they focus on.

If they do, I think it'll be UVA with an okay showing in the conference tourney.
