hogtied's post about Bert's history got me thinking, especially his unsubstanitated and inaccurate claim that, and I quote, "No other football coach has been this successful when first coming to the SEC. "
Using some of the criteria he posted in a feeble attempt to bolster Bret's bonafides, see if you can identify this HC who, like Bert, was hired by an SEC institution following a long, very successful stint at a major conference school:
Win%
Before Coach X: .557 (57th nationally)
Coach X: .758 (6 nationally)
Conference Win%
Before Coach X: .593
Coach X: .774
Conference Championships per year
Before Coach X: .099 (11 in 111 years)
Coach X: .455 (5 in 11 years)
Double Digit Win Totals for Season
Before Coach X: 2
Coach X: 4
It seems apparent that Coach X had a more successful career prior to his first SEC HC gig than Bert - particularly when you throw in the year wherein he led his team to a consensus National Championship, following an undefeated season, two accomplishments Bert never approached during his Wisky days.
Can you guess the identity of Coach X?

It's not Spurrier because we never won at least 10 games before him.

Spurrier had six conference championships at UF though.

And won it on the field in 90.

UF didn't have any conference championships before Spurrier got there though.

So the answer is still not Spurrier.

Coach X won his 5 conference championships (and his NC) at a school in another major conference, before he was hired by an SEC school. Hence the comparison with Bert.
So, no, definitely not Spurrier.

I thought it was Ford also, but he won the National Title at 12-0, and it was his only undefeated team.

Nothing was forfeited, and we still have the trophy.
