here are his stats vs P5 teams, when you take away Rice, Lamar, SMU, and ULM

sacks = 0.4 per game
solo tackles = 1.7 per game
assisted tackles = 1.7 per game
forced fumbles = 0 per game

wow. what a bad arse.

all SEC! He MIGHT have 5 total sacks this season.

How come Myles is the only player I ever see on this board who's conference stats are mentioned over and over. What are other star players conference stats? Why aren't they talked about with the same frequency? Does every other player just dominate SEC teams and not do shite against scrubs?

when you take away FCS stats, Derek Barnett actually moves up from 4th in the SEC in sacks per game to 2nd (whereas Myles falls from 1st to 16th). in fact Barnett also broke Clowneys freshman record for sacks (8) except he got 10 against P5 teams compared to Garretts 3.5

Barnett

Ole Miss - 3
South Carolina - 3
Kentucky - 2
Vanderbilt - 1
Florida - 1

Garrett

South Carolina - 1
Mississippi State - 1
Ole Miss - 1
West Virginia - .5

Ok so Barnett is good at rushing the quarterback. What about other players? How was LF in conference? Pharaoh Cooper? Dak? Jamal Adams? Derrick Henry? Leonard Floyd? VH3? Guys who are big time players in this conference. Do they rack up most of their numbers in conference play or against scrubs?

Didn't pro footbal focus do a college edition? Does anyone have a link to that? That may encompass more stats than just sacks.

Someone should alert the educated people who voted myles all conference that some sweaty, gumbo-swilling poster on tigerdroppings has taken objection based on a breakdown of his sack statistics, and a gif of an OL pushing him backwards after a play had been blown dead.

im not gonna run some algorithm on the history of college football, if thats what you're asking. for one, thats not the point. the point is that garrett is on everyones all-American lists based on beating up a few FCS schools and thats idiotic. thats why the title isnt "myles garrett sucks", its "myles garrett is overrated"

He's overrated according to you because he preformed better in one stat against sub par teams than he did against good teams. No one ever mentions anyone else's stats split between p5 and non p5 teams because it probably looks a like Myles. At the end of the day, Garrett is really good. To say anything other than that after his true freshman season is being disingenuous. No one is asking you to create an algorithm, I'm not even sure where you got that from, but maybe try a little more inclusive research before you flaunt you football knowledge, which I guess is superior to every person who gave Myles post season accolades.

This is a discussion about Myles Garrett and his overratedness (I know that's not a word). His closest comparison is Derek Barnett, a true soph that started as a true freshman at the same position as MG. Evidence shows Barnett does better against tougher competition than Garrett. What does a bunch of offensive players stats have to do with anything?

He is gonna have a heck of a year if Lael Collins didnt do any permanent damage to his back. I didnt know a spine could bend that far back and not break, his flexibility is incredible.

No he's closest comparison is every DE in the league. People spout off his non p5 vs p5 stats as if it's some shock that he did better against bad teams. Barnett did very well against his conference opponent, which to be fair were probably not as good as Myles'. I'm not knocking Barnett or saying Myles is better. I'm just saying if what Myles did last season is considered overrated for a true freshman in the toughest division in sports, then maybe the definition we are using for overrated is a bit off.

He also played most of his conference games later in the year after it was well documented that he was a freak of nature, and thus faced quite a bit more attention as far as blocking and double teams go. But that's also conveniently ignored

If people double him all year and Daeshon Hall or one of our DTs has a huge year numbers wise people will just use it as more ammo that he's overrated, but whatever

2014 consensus freshman AA, freshman all-SEC, 2nd team all-SEC. Played from the 6th game going forward with torn ligaments in hand, missing the mizzou game, including a performance against auburn where he blocked a FG that was returned for a TD. 2015 pre season all-SEC.

Stats, while important, don't always tell the story. They don't count double teams, containing plays, etc... If you watched him all 2014, 2015 preseason all-SEC isn't unreasonable. He may not end up there, but he deserves to start there. In both my- and the the media's opinion.

If we didn't have this circle jerk, it would just allow room for more def coordinator dick measuring, or some other SECR flavor-of-the-week meme.
