Years of going to away games around the conference have led me to believe that the SEC east schools are just not as friendly and it's just more common place to be rude. I don't think they notice it though and it's not everyone that's an asshat, just a much higher percentage at the schools you listed than at the SEC west schools.

It's not unusual in my encounters. My daughter is 24 and my son 21. They and all their friends speak like that so I'm accustomed to it from the circle of friends my children have.
My perceived surprise may stem from a view that social media presents of today's youth and young adults. There's a stark difference in the reality of day-to-day activity to that of the SJW meme that's we consume on a daily basis while surfing the internet.
This same misperception of day-to-day reality will be a slap in the face to many in two weeks.
