I have a friend who was gay in the south. Lot of people judged him and made him feel unsafe and uncomfortable

Much to the surprise of many t-shirt fans, but most SEC campuses are pretty welcoming of the gay community.
This generation isn't as concerned with who you have sex with as the older generation.
Good for this guy feeling welcomed. God forbid he feels comfortable in his environment.

Glad it's gotten better.
Good friend of my wife (and somewhat of mine) was gay at Ole Miss when we were there and never felt comfortable coming out in Oxford. He did the whole fraternity thing (actually a Pike which makes me lol because they're meat heads) and pretended to date chicks.
He's out now though.
