Will MSU ever be able to pull off a national championship title? Or is there just some anti-clutch maroon gene?

Nope. Its sobering.
I jokingly posted last week that the most MSU thing ever would be to beat UConn and lose to South Carolina for the third time this season.
In the last 20 years, MSU has been in the national semifinals in
Men's Basketball
Men's Tennis
Baseball
Women's Basketball
In the last five years, MSU has held the #1 ranking in
Football
Baseball
Women's Golf
Track and Field
That represents over half our sports. We're not as shitty as everyone thinks we are, but the natty is what matters - so we are as shiitty as everyone thinks we are.

We have been insanely unlucky, however, MSU didn't really give a shite about sports for a period of about 4 decades, until the last 20-25 years.

It's a curse. 3 times in past 4 years, State has either played in a title game/series or being #1. At least we are not Ole Miss.

We would lose to SC in this too
on our drive to Charleston we passed through some little rural back water town that was home to the world championship Double Dutch Jump Rope team.
