Movement in the polls...

In the polls last year, Bama started at 2, fell to 7, finished at 4. (-2)
Auburn went 6, 2, 22. (-16)
MSU went unranked, 1, 11. (+ about 14)
LSU went 13, 8, unranked. (- about 12)
A&M went 21, 6, unranked. (- about 4)
USCe went 9, unranked. (- about 16)
So, last year, South Carolina was the big loser in terms of actual season success given season expectation - although, to be fair, LSU fell over 12 spots and finished the year unranked. This year, it seems clear Auburn and Arkansas will be the big losers in terms of actual season success given expectations.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see who rises and who falls. Here is where we have come so far:

Also State will be a big winner again this season. Certainly not finishing last in the west like everyone has predicted since Mullen got here.
Next year everyone will say "State will finish last since Dak is gone". Then we will turn out to be decent again. Rinse wash repeat.
Then one year we will have a bad year and finish last in the West and everyone will say I told you. And it will be the first time since a room that happened

It's cute how you think state has the revolving door of talent and that yall will be sec champ contenders every year.

I did not realize until a post on here a couple weeks ago that between 2001-09 (9 seasons), State finished last or tied for last in eight of those seasons.
Thats a decade of current SECranters, pollsters, and media in formidable years that basically can't imagine State not finishing last, although it hasn't happened in six years.
Humans are a creature of habit, and I really can't blame random fans for considering State the doormat, but this year's pollsters really made some mistakes in the preseason. It will all work itself out in the end like it always does, but there was zero reason not to have MSU in the Top 25 to start the year.

State has a good coach, they beat plenty of teams with better talent. Also they have recruited better over the last couple of years compared to how they do historically. Not saying they will win the SEC but they will be tough opponent.

They are a tough opponent this year, as they were last year. But to conclude they will remain competitive year in and year out is jumping the gun.

State will not finish last, they have too much talent purely on the shoulders of Dak to finish last in the conference. I never thought State would be last I just thought they would have a dirt season.

Ehhh probably Arkansas, I just saw them having a complete breakdown
You wanted me to say ATM, unlike most LSU fans on this site I don't take the beautiful bait you Ags waive in our faces.

I wanted you to tell the truth. If you had, you would have said A&M. The consensus on this site was A&M was going to finish last. Some folks said state, but most said A&M. Arkansas was widely believed to be a potential contender.

So true. Everyone on this board is so polite to one another - except that darn aggy.
(The real reason you've grown to hate A&M is because you are getting sick of losing to us, and the fact that y'all lost the way y'all lost has only made it worst for you. Regardless, I hope y'all win every game left on your schedule. Go Hawgs!)

no, i felt this way before saturday. the incessant talk of all your money and your resources and yadda yadda how you've got the bestest stuff ever and that's why you're now a super start *snort* it's beyond old.

Here's what I go by. If you lost your best player on the team for whatever reason, then exactly how good are you after the fact? Can someone else step up and fill at least one of his shoes or is your season basically over?

Yes, arkansas fans never had a problem with undeserved arrogance pre-season.
Never.

I'm sure we had some but it wasn't a mantra that everyone of us repeated.

No, it wasn't. For the record- you'll always be little old second class Texas in my mind.
