To answer this question, I took an objective approach by comparing the preseason AP Top 25 to the end of season poll after the bowl games, for every year since 2006

1. Georgia
quote:

Mark Richt has moved on to Miami, and there is a chance that program garners its first preseason ranking in the top 25 since 2010 (let that sink in)

2. USC
3. Nebraska
4. Oklahoma
5. Tu
6. Florida State
7. LSU

LSU hasn’t been ranked higher than 14th in any of the last four seasons when the smoke cleared.

8. West Virginia
9. Florida

with Will Muschamp, where the team finished in the AP Top 25 only once despite lofty expectations. It looked like they were going to reverse that trend last year unexpectedly, as the team entered unranked for the second straight year. But a late collapse dropped them to only 25th in the final polls.

10. (Tie) Virginia Tech
10. (Tie) UCLA

Notre Dame the year Bama spanked that arse in the national title game.

Yeah, most of these schools play for the pre-season hype. Classic case of over-promise and under-deliver.

I think LSU fans will agree LSU's been overrated since the end of 2011. LSU hasn't finished well compared to where they started in the polls. This season will hopefully change that.

Tennessee gets one more chance before they end up on this list.

Be honest with yourself, LSU has been mediocre the past 2 seasons.

Sure they have, but I would rather LSU be overrated than a complete afterthought.

Visibility is good for recruiting.

It's not our fault we always get ranked high. Georgia has gone 10-3 both of the last 2 years and probably is like -40 in the scoring system.

I hope you're not referring to aTm when saying "afterthought". We are a program on the rise, LSU is declining and if you have a 3 loss season again, Miles is probably gone. LSU isn't what you think it is.

No one has disputed that. Hell, most of our fans would say that LSU has been down right awful the past two seasons.

But the thread title says "past decade". Since 2006, LSU has a Sugar Bowl, National title, and two SEC titles.

The past 4 years, referenced in the article, which have been disappointing to say the least, were:

10 win regular season
10'win season
8 win season
9 win season with a cancelled rent-a-win game.

Pretty good by most standards.
