More likely to be fired: Mike Anderson or Mark Fox?

I think it's pretty much a lock that Johnny Jones and Kim Anderson will be fired (and I think both fanbases would revolt if they weren't), but Mike Anderson and Mark Fox are two coaches who could conceivably get the axe (A&M fans might argue for Billy Kennedy, but that ain't happening).

What's the baseline for Anderson to keep his job? Making the tournament? A decent showing the rest of the way, even if that means a solid NIT showing? Having a pulse and an insane buyout?

What's the baseline for Fox to keep his job? A miracle run back into the dance? A strong showing in the NIT? A win over Kentucky?

I don't think it's likely that either will be fired, but if I had to guess, Fox would probably be more likely. His returning team next year doesn't look too strong without Frazier and maybe Maten, and his recruiting class, while solid, isn't special. Anderson might lose Kingsley and Hannahs, but he has a really nice recruiting class coming in that will probably buy him another year.

Something tells me both fan bases are going to pick the other teams coach, referencing their ADs being pussies.

Our AD is exactly that but I don't see how even he could justify keeping fox.

the only reason to keep MA would be to keep his recruiting class.

but that wasn't enough to keep pelphrey so who knows.

I don't care at this point.

Mark Fox. He's been a HUGE disappointment at Georgia and outpasses even Johnny Jones as an underachiever.

I wouldn't be surprised if neither gets fired. This conference accepts mediocrity in basketball

Kim Anderson took over a team that basically got death-penaltied. He will probably be fired anyway but I don't know many other coaches who could succeed there the past couple of years. Could see patience wearing thin with Fox first.

Georgia basketball has never changed as long as I can remember. Even back in the day when the SEC was good and deep with Dale Brown and Wimp and Kruger and Nolan Richardson running around making the Dance regularly, UGA was always a bubble team either just in or one of the first four out. That was under Hugh Durham, and now it continues under Fox. Georgia hoops has been one big MEH! for years.

LSU basketball has been mostly pretty bad since the Final Four miracle of 2006. 2008-09 saw a good deal of success, but since then just failure and frustration.

I agree about Georgia basketball. Hugh Durham had one final Four team (1983) but mostly his teams hovered around .500. That was followed by the Jirsa mistake, and then Tubbs who had some success.

I remember Georgia as far back as 1969-70. They had a coach named Ken Rosemond and finished in 3rd place in the SEC, behind Kentucky and LSU. They gave a great Kentucky team two nailbiter close games that year.

You have good recruits but they aren't good enough to keep a coach over.

Anderson is like the Mark Richt of bball coaches, just enough to not get fired but constantly underperforming expectations.

More and more are seeing this because he would only squander the talented recruits.

Future recruits on paper is no reason to keep a coach around not performing. Didn't happen to Pel and shouldn't for Mike.

The 2018 class is better than the 2017 class, but I don't want to have to keep mike for two whole more seasons just for that. Besides, like 7/8 of our recruits for the next 3 years are from Arkansas. The only one not from here is 4* Reggie Perry from Georgia.

You just didn't notice the small blips when we actually had competent coaching.

Under Tubby and Harrick we were a force and legitimately a top 25 team that was always expected to make the tourney, if not make a run.

The flip side of that is they were just that, blips on the radar, and our AD isn't committed to actually doing somethign about it. Which is very sad.

Sounds like Auburn basketball historically

At least now, we are dragging ourself out of the dumpster. I feel bad for Bruce for having to inherit this mess

I could see a scenario where we let Mike go.... but knowing Long that's only if he thinks he has a lock on the next guy and it's someone the fanbase will respond to.
At this point it would just about have to be someone like Greg Marshall for it to happen... not going to go out and get a no-name 1 hit wonder like Heath was.
that said, I think we are stuck with what we have for at least 1 more year.
